Royal Rumble 2012: Why Kane Won't Break Eliminations Record

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

WWE has emphasized that Kane is just four Royal Rumble eliminations away from tying Shawn Michaels' career record of 35. It makes sense for the company to promote that right now with Kane being built as a monster, but he is going to come up short of four eliminations in this year's match.

First of all, it has not officially been announced that Kane will be in the match. It would not be a surprise to see him there, but since he is also wrestling John Cena earlier in the show, he might not make it to the Rumble.

We all know that WWE wants us to look at the Kane-Cena feud as a way to push Cena over the edge. What better way to have him snap than to let him take out the Big Red Monster?

WWE has no problem sacrificing someone if it is going to elevate Cena, because when you think of stars in the company today who really need a push to get over with the fans—you think of John Cena.

In all seriousness, it seems like WWE wants to get Cena to embrace his dark side—no matter how comically awful it comes off on television. So the best way to do that would be to have him beat down Kane with a chair or slam him through the stage to avenge his little buddy Zack Ryder.

Even if Kane does make it into the Rumble match, he is not going to be in any condition to throw anyone over the top rope. In fact, he could get thrown in the ring at the same time as Cena to have him finish the job he started earlier in the show.

Kane has been used well in past Rumbles because his size and gimmick make it easy to believe that he would succeed in a match like this, but this is a different time and era in wrestling...

Everything that used to work has long since been forgotten.

Cena is going to treat Kane the same way that Kane treated Ryder on Monday, so none of HBK's records will be broken during this show.
