Royal Rumble 2012 Card: CM Punk Needs a New Gimmick Fast

Donald WoodJan 27, 2012

While I love what CM Punk is and what he stands for, this whole fighting the authority angle with the interim general manager John Laurinaitis has to go the way of the Dodo.

This needs to end at the Royal Rumble.

Dolph Ziggler and Punk are set to put on an amazing match, but there is almost no doubt that it will be ruined by the boring and annoying Johnny Ace. I couldn’t hate this any more.

Punk and Ziggler would steal the show because of their amazing match if it weren’t for the stupid guest referee who will ruin everyone’s fun. No matter what is next for Punk, this has to be the end of the rope for this current storyline so he can move on to what’s next.

While the popular belief has been that Chris Jericho and Punk would feud leading into WrestleMania, WrestleZone is reporting about new talks within the company about a possible change to that plan.

"

After speaking to several sources, WZ has learned that new talk has surfaced within WWE regarding WrestleMania 28 plans. Contrary to what has been previously reported, it appears that The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho and Triple H vs. CM Punk are the two big matches currently being discussed.

WWE is aware that due to online reports, fans have been expecting the tentative plan for Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk at Mania, and while those plans have not been scrapped by any means, officials have discussed a creative shake-up.

In addition to the Internet motive, there is belief internally that more could have been done in the past between CM Punk and Triple H.

"

This news couldn’t be any better for the fans of the WWE. Not only will we avoid the awful third WrestleMania matchup between Undertaker and Triple H, we will get a feud that was rushed and ruined by Kevin Nash.

With no Nash, the battle between Punk and Triple H could be a true authority figure vs. everyman scenario that brings the fans back to the great times in 2011 where the WWE champion verbally destroyed Vince McMahon and Triple H.

It’s true that we’ve seen the Punk-Triple H feud before, but the fact that it had no real ending means that WWE may be open to rehashing the idea; especially when Mr. H has his hand in the company cookie jar.
