Senior Bowl 2012: Skill Players Who Will Hurt Their Draft Stock
The Senior Bowl is the last chance for many top NFL prospects to impress scouts in real game competition, and with draft stock's at stake, these players will give it their all against other fantastic talents.
Some of the players that must have a good Senior Bowl include fringe players that right now are late first-round to early second-round picks. A strong senior bowl would vault these players into the first round and give them a better chance to make more money in the NFL.
Let's look at three players who won't impress at the Senior Bowl and hurt their draft stock.
Chris Polk, RB, Washington
Pass protection is a weakness that Chris Polk needs to work on or he might slip out of the first round in the upcoming draft.
He has all the skills needed to be a fantastic NFL running back, but in a league in which teams are passing the ball more than ever, running backs have to be able to protect the quarterback by picking up blitzers and picking up protection assignments.
Against some of the top defensive prospects in the Senior Bowl, Polk will not impress scouts with his pass protection abilities.
Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State
Kellen Moore had a tremendous career at Boise State, but if he wants to be a good NFL quarterback his passing accuracy must improve.
Thus far in the Senior Bowl practices, his accuracy has been poor, especially when throwing deep balls. Moore doesn't have a ton of athleticism outside the pocket, and doesn't throw well on the run, so if he doesn't throw accurately standing in the pocket his draft stock will really drop.
With a bad Senior Bowl, Moore would cost himself a lot of money with his draft position.
Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin
Despite having great athleticism and good running skills, Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson still needs to improve his passing skills to be drafted as high as he wants.
He doesn't have great size and is shorter than most quarterbacks, but he makes up for that with a great competitive fire. With that said, he needs to be more accurate as a passer to prove to scouts he's ready to be at least a backup in the pros.
If he cannot be an accurate passer, NFL defenses will dominate him in the small amount of playing time he will earn next season.
