Australian Open 2012: Andy Murray Must Exploit Ailing Novak Djokovic to Advance

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

Andy Murray is so close to his first Grand Slam victory of his young career. He’s just got to get past Novak Djokovic first to make it into the 2012 Australian Open Finals.

He may just have some luck on his side with his opponent injured.

Djokovic is arguably the greatest player in the game right now, which makes this semifinal match extremely challenging semifinal for the fourth-seeded Murray.

However, the Serb is not 100 percent healthy going into the rematch of the 2011 finals of this event.

Against Roger Federer in the quarterfinals, the world No. 1 could be seen grasping at his abdomen, hip and leg at different points in the match.

He eventually overcame his challenger, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1, but it was not easy, and the second set was won by pure willpower.

Murray must take advantage of these problems to face Rafael Nadal in the finals.

He plans to, and already warned his friend that he will be showing no mercy, according to Mike Dickson of the Daily Mail.

"

You've got to put all that to one side and do whatever it takes to get that win. If that means hitting your opponent with a passing shot, like Nicolas Almagro did to Tomas Berdych this week, you have to do what you need to do.

"

Murray was the best man at Djokovic’s wedding last year, but they both will temporarily subvert that buddy-buddy relationship for a Grand Slam.

Watch the Scot attempt to ruthlessly attack his opponent and make him run all over the court, trying to aggravate his injuries and pull out a win.
