National Signing Day 2012: Predictions for the Top 5 Uncommitted Recruits

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

National Signing Day is right around the corner. Of course that's where majority of the top uncommitted players in the country decide where they would like to play their college football. Right now they're currently wrapping up the final steps of the recruiting process and preparing for a decision that will change their lives forever.

As we are less than a week away from the top players making their decision, it's about that time to make our predictions. While a few of them are keeping quiet and trying their best not to drop off any hints, we can figure out where they would fit best.

Here are the predictions for the top five uncommitted players.

OT Kyle Murphy

1 of 5

Kyle Murphy will likely stay in his home state of California, question is, where exactly? It will come down to schools like Oregon, USC, Stanford and even UCLA has an outside shot. I see Murphy blocking for Barry Sanders Jr. for the next few years.

Stanford isn't that far from his home in San Clemente, Calif., and the school provides a top-notch education and the recent success they've had with offensive linemen is incredible. He'll also be teamed up with one of the top centers in this year's class in Graham Shuler.

There was even a rumor that he had already committed to Stanford. While it was later proved that this was not true, many expect that it's only a matter of time before his commitment to Stanford is officially announced.

CB Ronald Darby

2 of 5

Darby, who is one of the best cornerbacks in this year's class, originally committed to Notre Dame before backing out and exploring his options. He then visited other schools like Maryland, Florida State, Clemson and Auburn. The Seminoles seem to be the likely choice with Darby.

Florida State has a great recruiting class, especially on defense, but they don't have any cornerbacks, which would provide the chance for him to see quality playing time his freshman year. He's also heading to a school to has a great head coach in Jimbo Fisher and appears to be on the rise in a watered-down ACC.

As much as I would love to see a cornerback tandem including Darby and Tee Shepard in Notre Dame, it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

WR Stefon Diggs

3 of 5

Stefon Diggs has been one of the most difficult players to get any information out of. Although we do have an idea of who he is most interested in. His decision will likely come down to Auburn and Florida. If you're a betting man, you have to go with the Gators in this situation.

Florida has always been considered the favorite for Diggs' services. He grew up a fan of the team and the only time Florida appeared to be out of the picture was when Charlie Wies left for Kansas. Now that they have Brent Pease running the show, the Gators once again are the front-runners. He's visited Florida twice already, and we already know which school his mom likes as well.

Diggs hasn't done much talking throughout the process, but I would be shocked if he's not doing the gator chomp on National Signing Day.

OT Arik Armstead

4 of 5

Armstead and his recruiting process has been tricky, because he would have liked to play with his brother, but he's returning to USC. That now means that Arik will likely pick between teams like Auburn, Oregon, Notre Dame and California. The Trojans still have a slight shot, but it's likely going to come down to the Ducks and the Irish.

I'm going to pick Notre Dame.

Armstead is an offensive lineman, but will likely play on the defensive side of the ball. With the issues Notre Dame has on defense, he will be given every opportunity to play right away. He'd also be playing for one of the most prestigious programs in the country, and since he will play basketball as well, he'd get to play in the Big East. Who would really say no to something like that?

WR Dorial Green-Beckham

5 of 5

Green-Beckham will see quality minutes regardless of where he ends up, he's too talented not to. He's considering schools like Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Arkansas. While it's hard to figure out anything when it comes to the nation's top recruit, the Razorbacks have to be the slight favorite.

Head coach Bobby Petrino is an offensive guy and would probably get the most production out of him. He'd be playing with a quarterback like Tyler Wilson right away, which will only help his growth going into his sophomore and junior seasons. The addition would also help make Arkansas a BCS National Championship contender as well. Let's not forget the Razorbacks are also getting a healthy Knile Davis back at running back.

I think this is a race between Missouri and Arkansas, but have to go with the Razorbacks at this point.
