WWE News: SummerSlam Possibly Going 3D for Theater Release

The Doctor Chris MuellerMay 31, 2018

Some very interesting news has come to light this morning regarding WWE. According to a report posted at TWNP News, there is a possibility of WWE doing a 3D event.

Here is what the report had to say,

"

WWE officials are looking at doing a 3D theater presentation of the SummerSlam pay-per-view after UFC recently announced similar plans.

This is an interesting prospect and one I think could work well for WWE. As it is, wrestling is a very in your face spectacle and adding 3D to the mix could serve as a good gimmick.

The other interesting part about this is the possibility of having SummerSlam shown in 3D theaters. This would undoubtedly be at a much lower price than buying the PPV for the standard $49.99.

By giving fans the opportunity to see the event in a movie theater, you are giving more fans a chance to see it for a less expensive cost on a much grander stage than someone's living room.

When WrestleMania was first shown in movie theaters there were lines out the door and around the block, according to the theater owners who were interviewed for the True Story of WrestleMania DVD, which by the way is really entertaining.

The only thing I could see being an issue is that WWE tends to overuse certain things. Twitter is the most recent example of something WWE pushed down everyone's throats and I am worried that the 3D gimmick might be something they would play into a bit more.

I could only imagine the things WWE would do to play up the 3D. Having wrestlers work a match around the video format might make the whole thing look terrible.

The only way it would really work is if the wrestlers acted like nothing had changed, otherwise we would have guys throwing punched towards the camera so it looks like they are punching towards the crowd.

I would be interested to see the number of people who went to the theater vs. the number of people who watched it at home if this were to become a reality. I do not think it would eat into PPV purchases too much, but rather draw in more fans who want to see the event at a lower price in the theater.

What do you think of the possibility of WWE going 3D for SummerSlam?
