Murray vs. Djokovic: Semifinal Match Will Pale in Comparison to Federer vs Nadal
Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic will go head-to-head on Friday at the 2012 Australian Open, but the match will fail to give the fans as much excitement as the Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal match did.
This rematch of last year's final will seem like déjà vu for everyone because Djokovic will once again make quick work of Murray.
Djokovic won in straight sets in last year's final, and the same will occur on Friday. Even though Murray has been playing much better recently, he won't be able to handle Djokovic.
Federer and Nadal put fans on the edge of their seat for the majority of their match. Nadal ended up winning in four sets, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6, 6-4.
He may have cruised in the second set, but the rest of the match was extremely intense. It's unfortunate, but tennis fans won't be blessed with another great semifinal match.
Having played each other 10 times, Djokovic leads Murray 6-4. His win streak will continue because he is determined to follow up on his success from last season.
The world's No. 1 player continues to get better, which spells bad news for all those in his path.
Murray has never won a Grand Slam before, and he is hoping this time around he can win it all. The Australian Open is the one major event he plays his best at, having reached the finals in the last two years in a row.
That streak will come to an end because Djokovic won't allow Murray to win. Djokovic will dominate with his serves, putting Murray in a bind.
Djokovic is well aware Murray is playing some of his best tennis right now, but he told the Herald Sun that he's ready for him.
"[Murray's] been proving to himself and the rest of the people that the Australian Open is probably his best grand slam. But I have been playing quite well here in the last couple of years. We have to expect a great match."
The fans won't get a great match because Murray will struggle too much against Djokovic, especially since the Serbian isn't feeling any pain from his previous match like many thought he might.
"No, I don't have any physical issues. I feel very fit and I feel mentally, as well, very fresh," Djokovic said.
Murray will give it his best effort, but Djokovic is just much better than he is, which is why this match will be quick and unexciting.
