Senior Bowl 2012: One 2012 NFL Draft Prospect to Look for from Each Roster

John RozumJun 7, 2018

With the 2012 Senior Bowl on Saturday Jan. 28, there's a lot of 2012 NFL draft implications on the line.

Each roster has a lot of talent across the board and everyone is looking to build solid momentum heading into the NFL combine. That said, here is one player to look for on each roster that's not an over-exposure prospect.

Ironically, we may see them matchup in this game as both are on opposite sides of the ball and slated to be mid-round selections.

North: Marvin McNutt, WR (Iowa)

One of the more underrated receivers in the Big Ten conference as well as the nation, Iowa's Marvin McNutt is a guy who can stretch the field as good as anyone.

Playing second fiddle to Derrell Johnson-Koulianos in 2010, McNutt still caught 53 passes for 861 yards and scored eight touchdowns (same number of scores from 2009). In 2011 though, he was left alone out wide and had a new quarterback under center.

Still, McNutt managed to one-up himself and accounted for 1,315 yards on 82 receptions while scoring 12 touchdowns.

In the NFL he's a prototypical No. 2 receiver that will be a great complement to anyone like Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. As for the Senior Bowl, he's the one guy to watch from the north roster because McNutt is vastly underrated.

Now he still needs to improve as a route-runner while being great at getting yards after the catch.

South: Brandon Boykin, CB (Georgia)

On the south roster it's tough to choose one specific player because there's so much talent from the SEC, however, Georgia's Brandon Boykin is one of the dynamic players who stands out.

This past season he accounted for 55 tackles, three picks, 12 passes defended and force two fumbles. He also returned 38 kickoffs and 14 punts back for 1,030 yards and one touchdown.

Additionally, Boykin caught five passes for 71 yards and scored two touchdowns while also carrying the rock seven times for 103 yards and one touchdown. He's a complete player who has Deion Sanders-esque potential because of his return skills combined with offensive utilization.

Defensively, he's a lock down corner who takes advantage of the quarterback when challenged and is perfect to blanket slot receivers in the NFL.

As for the Senior Bowl, he's one of the better corners participating and arguably the most experienced with the Bulldogs having much success during his tenure.
