Federer vs. Nadal: Rafa Will Get Fed Up in Australian Open Semifinals

Jeff ChaseJun 7, 2018

We all got what we wanted—the top four seeds are once again the Australian Open semifinals.

This time, we got to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal battling for a spot in this year's final, the place where they have typically met. With Federer playing like his former No. 1 self, he might just be too much for the fiery Spaniard.

If you have watched any of this tournament, nobody has looked as good as Federer thus far. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has been playing phenomenal, but the man from Switzerland is looking even better.

And that is saying a lot.

He remains to be the only player to not drop a set, and he is coming off of a ridiculously dominating performance over Juan Martin Del Potro in the quarterfinals.

Many had thought that that match would have finally tripped up the World No. 3, but it was actually more of a statement. He won the match 6-4 6-3 6-2, and it didn't even look like a challenge.

Nadal, on the other hand, is coming off of a four set win over Tomas Berdych. The No. 2 ranked player in the World is looking impressive, but not as impressive as his rival.

The match against Berdych was his first set he dropped all tournament, but he had to battle through two tie breakers, including the one he lost in the first set.

While it is no guarantee that Federer will walk away with this easily, if Nadal continues to have struggles, you can expect this one to be much different than many have been in the past.

For anyone who follows the game, they know that Rafa has been owning Fed over the years. The Spaniard has a 17-9 advantage, but Federer is coming into this match with the last victory.

The two faced off at the ATP World Tour Finals, where Fed won in convincing fashion. This tournament his dominance has continued, and he has looked like the better player thus far.

Nadal hasn't had his best results at this tournament.

He did win it back in 2009, but besides for that he has only made the semifinals once before, while also being ousted from the quarters three times.

Federer, on the contrary, has won here four times, while also reaching the semifinals three times. He lost here last year against Djokovic, but is looking to redeem himself and try to regain his spot atop of the tennis world.

If Federer is able to find an opening, he will take it. If he continues to play the way he has been and takes the first set, it will be hard for Rafa to make the climb back.

Federer has just been too strong thus far.

This will likely be a great match as always, but it will be Federer heading to the finals fighting for numer 17.
