Royal Rumble 2012: John Cena Is Set to Silence Haters

While many fans have questioned if WWE is really turning their biggest superstar heel, Monday’s edition of Raw proved that he is gaining the edge that he has missed for so long.

WWE wants to turn John Cena into The Rock.

For those that don’t remember or aren’t old enough to have enjoyed the Rock dominate the WWE universe, he was a face for the majority of his career. While there was a time that he was the corporate champion, the reason he became such a success was because the crowd loved him.

As much as people don’t want to admit it, Cena is today’s version of the Rock. He is great on the mic, his wrestling skills are good—but not great—and he gets a huge reaction from the crowd.

The WWE wants to change the reaction, though.

Despite the fun that the “Let’s Go Cena; Cena Sucks” chants cause, the WWE has to try and unify the crowd in order to have the match against the Rock at WrestleMania look as important as the company is building it to be.

That brings me back to the presumed Cena heel turn. While the 10-time WWE Champion’s face at the conclusion of his bit on Raw was hilarious, it shows the WWE is trying to make him a wild man in the same mold as a Randy Orton type.

There is no way the WWE could turn heel right now because all of the little kids still love him. With a Cena heel, kids wouldn’t like him and adults still wouldn’t like him, so the company would achieve nothing.

The whole purpose of this angle with Kane is to show the WWE universe that Cena can be a wild man and is a legitimate threat against the Rock during the main event of the company's biggest show.

When Cena beats The Rock at WrestleMania, he will become the new people’s champion.
