Royal Rumble 2012 Predictions: John Cena's Mean Streak Will Cost Him vs. Kane

Tim DanielsJan 24, 2012

John Cena has finally started to embrace the hate, which is something that was necessary before his feud with The Rock reignites in the coming months. The anger will end up costing him a victory against Kane at Royal Rumble, though.

Cena will never undergo a complete heel turn, but his recent storyline with Kane has done a terrific job of showing a more fiery side of the WWE's biggest superstar. He was a one-dimensional character for so long that any deviation from the norm is a welcome change.

While most of the adult audience probably laughed out loud when he showed off his “mean face” on Raw, that was targeted toward the younger demographic to show his loyal fans that their favorite wrestler is getting fed up.

To everybody else, it simply means Mount Cena is about the erupt. After weeks of been torn apart by Kane, Cena is weaker than he's been at any time in recent memory.

His new best friend, Zack Ryder, has gone from innocent bystander to the injured list because of the feud, and Eve blamed it on Cena, only increasing his frustration level heading into Sunday.

It all adds up to him getting disqualified from his match against Kane. At some point, he's just going to lose control of his emotions and take everything out on the “Big Red Monster.”

Kane, who has been urging the leader of the Cenation to embrace hate, will consider his job done because it's never been a storyline between Kane and Cena, but rather Kane and what Cena has stood for. It's been about transforming the longtime champion into a well-balanced superstar.

Cena doesn't need a win over Kane to prove anything. The Rock's return is quickly approaching, so Cena will be right back in the spotlight regardless of any results between now and then. That's why his pay-per-view involvement has been spotty as of late.

It's all about making the WrestleMania main event as good as possible. Turning Cena into a madman that will be seeking revenge for Rocky making him look weak during their previous encounters is the best way to make it happen.

Even though a DQ isn't a typical way to end a feud, it makes the most sense in this scenario, especially because it's just a normal singles match. That wouldn't make any sense considering the recent out-of-ring encounters, unless a disqualification is coming.

It will be the perfect end to a feud that has accomplished its task. It's not been too often you could say that about a WWE storyline in recent months.
