Royal Rumble 2012: John Laurinaitis Will Ruin CM Punk-Dolph Ziggler Match

The WWE championship is on the line this Sunday night, but I have a funny feeling that a suit will be ruining the moment.

John Laurinaitis has been lingering around in the background of Monday Night RAW for weeks now just begging to get pummeled by CM Punk.

Punk recently blamed his recent losses to Dolph Ziggler squarely on the antics of Laurinaitis. Clearly, the two don’t like each other, and the tension has reached a boiling point. When Laurinaitis admitted to Mick Foley that he fully intended to screw Punk out of his championship title, you knew a showdown was on the horizon.

So, if Laurinaitis does end up in the ring, where will he fit in? The Elimination Chamber? This is the new-age Stone Cold Steve Austin versus Vince McMahon saga from the late 90s on a much smaller level. It’s a big fight in its own right considering Laurinaitis hasn’t stepped in the ring in over 10 years.

This sideshow is going to rob us from a potential epic match between Punk and Ziggler.

If Ziggler is able to defeat Punk again, there is a new king of the ring, a new face of wrestling. The timing of the Royal Rumble couldn’t be better for him to ride his current wave of momentum.

Yet none of it will come to fruition with the attention hog Laurinaitis around. He is going to end up getting physical against Punk and will predictably lose in a weak battle. Afterwards, with the fatigue setting in, Ziggler can pin Punk easily in a lackluster match that won’t really tell us anything.

Punk fans can blame Laurinaitis, Ziggler fans won’t have a comeback. It’s a nightmare situation that could end up running the championship title in one of the biggest events of the year.

Here’s to hoping that Laurinaitis is a complete afterthought and the focus remains on Punk and Ziggler.
