Royal Rumble 2012: Dolph Ziggler Has Epic Opportunity vs. CM Punk
Eric BallJun 7, 2018
The biggest fight of Sunday’s Royal Rumble has the potential to re-write the history books.
When Dolph Ziggler meets CM Punk with the WWE championship on the line, the fight could go one of two ways.
A Punk domination would solidify his status as the best wrestler on the planet and the debate would be over. Punk fans would have all the ammunition they would need and the world of WWE would be boring.

If Ziggler wins, a rematch would have to be scheduled and everything you thought would be flipped upside down.
The fact that John Laurinaitis will be the special guest referee is huge. He has admitted to Mick Foley that he fully intends to screw Punk out of his title. This wrinkle could easily overshadow Ziggler, which may be the best thing to happen here. Let Laurinaitis piss off Punk and bait him into a fight of their own, after which Ziggler can come in and finish off a bloodied Punk.
On Monday Night Raw this past week, Punk put his recent losses to Ziggler squarely on Laurinaitis. He essentially blamed him for everything bad that’s ever happened to him. With the tension rising, a Laurinaitis-Punk battle looked like it was about to go down. However, to nobody’s surprise, Laurinaitis backed out and David Otunga took his spot in a boring finish.
The whole world will now be watching in one of the biggest events of the entire year. Punk is busy making up excuses, but make no mistake about it, Ziggler has Punk’s number. He has the strength and quickness to keep up and the mental edge of knowing he has recently dominated him.
This is shaping up to be one of the most epic matches of the entire year and all signs point to a Ziggler victory. With the opportunity of a lifetime in front of him, this is going to be the year of the Ziggler.
Punk was so 2011.
