Roger Federer: Destined to Dominate Juan Martin Del Potro in Quarterfinal

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Roger Federer hasn't really been tested yet at Melbourne Park.  He has yet to drop a set, and yet to play a seeded opponent.

His fourth round match was against 19-year-old Bernard Tomic, who had already knocked off two seeded opponents on his way to the fourth round.

Much of the same can be said of Juan Martin del Potro.  The 23-year-old Argentinian lost his first set of the Australian Open, but hasn't lost one since.

He hasn't faced a seeded opponent yet either, though.

The world's No. 11 player hasn't fared well against the Swiss superstar, though.  In nine career matches, Del Potro has only defeated Federer twice.

Now the two are set to tangle in the quarterfinals tonight (tomorrow in Australian time) at Rod Laver Arena.

Federer's last Grand Slam win came at the Australian Open in 2010, and he's trying desperately to land another.

His run will continue with a win against the overmatched Del Potro.

Federer hasn't been all over the court, but rather dominating and controlling matches the way we know he can.

Del Potro is one of the game's better players, but Federer hasn't been knocked out at the Australian Open before semifinals since 2003.

That run will eventually come to an end, but now is not the time.
