Super Bowl Prop Bets: Easy Money Targets for Fun Bets

Richard LangfordJan 23, 2012

With the following advice, you can partake in a little prop betting that not only adds fun to the Super Bowl, but also makes it lucrative.

The lines on the prop bets haven't been widely posted yet, but with a wealth of Super Bowl history, we know what kind of bets will be available and how to bet them.

National Anthem

This is an annual betting favorite. This is a bet that features wild swings from one year to the next, which is kind of odd considering it is the same song.

Some entertainers take the anthem as a chance to flex their vocal chops and turn each note into a chance to sing every musical scale ever created.

Christina Aguilera falls into that category, and before last year's Super Bowl, she sang a 1:53/1:54 version of the song.

Kelly Clarkson takes a different approach. This anthem will be significantly shorter than last year's. In fact, it is going to be 1:30.

Clarkson is an anthem veteran. She clocked in at 1:30 before the World Series, and also in this performance prior to a Cowboys game.

My guess is that the oddsmakers will set this bar over that 1:30 mark, as that number seems far too small compared to last year's.

However, take the bet on whichever side 1:30 falls on, and if it is at 1:30, stay away altogether.

NBC Sitcom Stars Shown During the Broadcast

Play: Over

Networks pay gigantic money to broadcast this game. Part of the reason they do that is because it is an excellent stage to hype their other broadcasting options.

NBC will be all over this. With falling ratings and struggling sitcoms, NBC is going to pack in every star they can into the stands to lend every opportunity for the broadcasters to talk about them.

I have no idea what this line will look like. I only know that the reality will exceed it because by the end of this broadcast, we will all be left wondering if half of the crowd was a star from an NBC sitcom.

Which QB Will Throw for More Yards

This is going to be one of the more exciting and hotly contested prop bets on the board. Both of these QBs had prolific seasons and are the center of their offenses' success.

Brady threw for 5,235 yards this regular season, and Manning went for 4,933 yards. It is Manning that will end up with more yards in this game, though. That is because Eli has the luxury of facing the Patriots defense.

Both of these defenses struggle mightily against the pass this year. New England finished the season 31st in passing yards allowed, and New York was 29th.

However, the Giants have made huge strides in their pass defense. For instance, they held the Packers to 241 yards passing in the playoffs. Compare that to the 360 passing yards they allowed to the Packers in their regular season meeting, and their improvements become apparent.

The QBs are going to dominate this game, but when it comes to yards, Eli will be the most dominant.
