Chip Kelly's Heart Is in Oregon; Stays with Ducks, Turns Down NFL's Buccaneers

Sunday night saw a flurry of activity as many sports and media outlets were reporting that Chip Kelly and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had reached an agreement that would make Kelly their new head coach.

Now less than 12 hours later, ESPN is reporting that Kelly had a change of heart and could not see himself leaving the Ducks at this point.

On Monday morning, Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik said, "His heart is with college football and Oregon, and he's no longer being considered.''

With this latest news, some conclusions are already starting to be drawn.

One conclusion people are coming to is that the sanctions that could be placed against Oregon will not be that severe. When rumors swirled that Kelly was leaving, many believed it may be to avoid incoming penalties but with his return, this seems unlikely.

While staying at Oregon may sounds easy, Kelly has some work in front of him. 

National Signing Day is on February 1st and with that date approaching quickly, Kelly will have to reach out to current and possible commitments and help persuade them that he is serious about staying at Oregon for the long haul.

On top of re-establishing his relationship with his incoming recruits, Kelly must also speak with his current players and assure his commitment to them. 

While this story may have only took hours to spread, it is going to take weeks for Kelly to close the door on this and move forward. The only person that knows for sure about how committed he is to Oregon is Kelly, and it is now his job to get everyone back on the same page.
