Australian Open 2012 Scores: Big Names Prove Why They Are Favorites
There will be no upsets on the men's side of the 2012 Australian open as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are just far too good.
To be honest, what else should we expect?
There is a reason these men are the best tennis players in the world, they are simply dominant. They showed in it the fourth round of the Australian Open, and I expect that they will continue to do so all the way to the finals.
When all is said and done, expect one of those two big names to be in the Australian Open finals.
With that in mind, let's take a look back at the scoreboard from the men's side of the tournament in round four:
Here are some of the highlights:
Roger Federer vs. Bernard Tomic: Federer in Three
To be very frank, I had picked this match to be the upset, and now I feel very silly about it. Tomic was coming into this match extremely hot and with the home crowd behind him.
I expected that his confidence and young athleticism would be enough to upset Federer, who I believed is getting too old to compete.
Federer proved me wrong though, as he took Tomic out in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 and 6-2.
Rafael Nadal vs. Feliciano Lopez: Nadal in Three
No surprises here, as the No. 2-ranked Nadal beat up on the No. 18-ranked Feliciano. Nadal handily beat the underdog, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
If you're asking me, he's still arguably the best player in the world, and he just may have a chance to take that title back away from Djokovic if both continue to advance.
Juan Matrin Del Potro vs. Phillipp Kohlschreiber: Del Potro in Three
If you're asking me, Del Potro may be a dark-horse favorite to give the "big three" of tennis a scare in this tournament. He has what it takes to hang with them, and he easily disposed of Kohlschreiber, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.
Depending on his matchups, look for De Potro to make quite a run and perhaps put himself up with the big names in the tournament.
Other Scores:
Thomas Berdych vs. Nicholas Almagro: Berdych in Four.
