Arsenal vs. Manchester United: Robin van Persie Will Continue to Dominate

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

Robin van Persie has been the most dominating force in the world of football this season. He has single-handedly kept his Arsenal squad afloat in the English Premier League.

With Manchester United coming to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Van Persie is going to continue to dominate the competition.

In 21 games in the Premier League, Van Persie has scored 18 goals and five assists, making his mark on every EPL game this season. He’s been unbelievable this campaign.

Just when it appears that Arsenal is down and out, he magically scores a magnificent goal, makes an incredible play or does something to make you still believe the Gunners are in the game.

Arsenal currently sits in fifth with 36 points, 12 behind Manchester United. This seems respectable seeing how horrifically the Gunners started the campaign. They didn’t win their first game until September 10 against Swansea City. This was including an 8-2 drubbing from Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Then, a few games later, Van Persie started to put the ball in the back of the net with extreme consistency. After their embarrassing loss to Blackburn, Van Persie carried his team to where they are today. He sparked a 6-1 run with 12 goals in that stretch; he scored his goals when Arsenal needed it most.

His team’s lack of scoring as a whole has really put more pressure on Van Persie to play at this high of a level. Gervinho is second on the team in goals with four goals, and Mikel Arteta is third with three goals. What Van Persie has done thus far is incredible given how much pressure there is on him to score. Sir Alex Ferguson realizes stopping Van Persie gives your team a better chance of winning, according to ESPN.

"

It has become a case of stop Van Persie and you stop Arsenal. His form has been fantastic this season and his goal record speaks for itself. I hope he doesn't add to it this weekend. Arsenal have come to rely on him but I think you could say exactly the same thing about Barcelona.

"

But no team in the world is going to be able to completely stop Van Persie; they will only hope to contain him. It won’t happen though.

Just when you think we have seen the best of Van Persie, think again. He’s ready to show that he still has plenty left in the tank. What better of a stage to perform on than against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium?
