2012 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting Top East-West Shrine Game Standouts
The East-West Shrine Game isn't the Senior Bowl by any means, but it's still a big event for the NFL draft. Though many of the biggest prospects do not participate in the Shrine Game, there are many mid-level prospects that do.
In the West's victory, several players shined. No one really dominated, but more than a few prospects stood out.
None of these players will be drafted in the first round, and few will be selected on the second day. But the mid-round picks are important, too.
B.J. Cunningham, WR, Michigan State
1 of 6B.J. Cunningham will probably be the first Shrine star to be drafted. The 6'2", 205-pounder isn't overly fast or explosive, but he has good hands and is remarkably consistent.
Though he caught just two passes, Cunningham hauled in one touchdown and showed off his ability. The Michigan State star could end up in the second round come April.
Jarius Wright, WR, Arkansas
2 of 6The speedy Jarius Wright showed of his playmaking ability when he hauled in a 41-yard completion. At 5'10", 180 pounds, Wright probably isn't a future starter, but he can be an excellent player out of the slot.
Wright's problem is obvious—he's too small. However, the Arkansas star will find a way to make it in the NFL, and we saw why in this game.
B.J. Coleman, QB, Chattanooga
3 of 6At 6'3", 235 pounds, B.J. Coleman has terrific size. The Chattanooga star completed 10 of his 15 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown. Coleman isn't ready now, but in time, he could develop into a solid starter.
Coleman has good physical tools and accuracy. However, he needs to work on his footwork, pocket presence and consistency. A team could take a chance on Coleman in the fourth round.
DaJohn Harris, DT, USC
4 of 6A 6'4", 310-pound defensive tackle, DaJohn Harris is talented but raw. Harris is a good athlete with decent explosiveness, yet he never developed into a star for the Trojans.
At best, Harris will be drafted in the mid rounds, but he's probably more of a late-round pick. At first, Harris will be nothing more than a rotational player though he could develop into a starter.
Lennon Creer, RB, Louisiana Tech
5 of 6Though he weighs only 215 pounds, Lennon Creer is not fast. Creer played well for the West, though, and he rushed for 80 yards on 15 carries.
It's unlikely that Creer will be drafted before the late rounds, but he certainly produced in the All-Star game. The Louisiana Tech star simply isn't talented enough to produce at a high level in the NFL, however.
