New Jersey Nets: Once Again Consistency Is the Key in Nets Loss
The Nets most recent loss was to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They lost 84-74 and have fallen to eight games below .500. The Nets are still only two games away from the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference which is currently held by the New York Knicks.
The most glaring problem for the Nets against the Thunder was consistency.
As a team, the Nets had a field goal percentage of 31 percent and made only 3-of-23 three-point shots that they attempted. These numbers would be alright if they were playing blindfolded or with one hand tied behind there backs. Combine the Nets poor field goal percentage with 16 turnovers and they are destined to lose the game.
This has been a trend for the Nets and especially Deron Williams. As we saw in the previous game, if Williams plays well, the Nets win. If he struggles, like against the Thunder, the Nets lose.
Williams had a 27.8 percent field goal percentage and missed all six of his shots from behind the arc. The Nets fell behind by 10 points at the end of the first quarter. It took Williams almost 18 minutes to score a point.
The Nets lost by a deficit of 10 points and hypothetically if Williams could hit 2-of-6 three-pointers he missed and two more field goals, the game is tied.
Nets rookie MarShon Brooks has probably been the most consistent player for them this season. He started off hitting his first four shots but followed that by missing his next nine shots.
Anthony Morrow is supposed to be a sharpshooter. His performance last night would prove otherwise. He was just 2-of-13 in field goals and only hit 1-of-4 three-point shots.
Usually when you face the Thunder and you hold Kevin Durant to 20 points, you have a good shot at winning the game. But when you score just 74 points, you don't have a good shot at winning the game.
The Nets can win these games that they are losing, if they could have more consistent scoring. They are not getting blown out in many games this season. If they can just start hitting their shots on a more consistent basis, they will have more "W's" in their win column.
