East-West Shrine Game 2012 Stats: Quarterbacks Shine in Front of NFL Scouts

Austin GreenJun 7, 2018

Several quarterbacks improved their NFL draft stock with strong performances in the 2012 East-West Shrine Game.

The annual event is a perfect chance for prospects to impress pro scouts, as representatives from all 32 NFL teams are in attendance.

The following three quarterbacks took advantage of their opportunity on Saturday.

B.J. Coleman, East

B.J. Coleman isn't a household name, but the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga product is quickly rising up draft boards.

He has a cannon for an arm and the perfect size (6'3", 235 pounds) for an NFL quarterback. He will likely be a third or fourth-round pick and is the only quarterback in this game that projects well as an NFL starter.

He was excellent on Saturday, completing 10-of-15 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown. He put the East up 10-0 with a 17-yard strike to B.J. Cunningham in the first quarter.

Unfortunately, his team eventually fell 24-17.

Austin Davis, East

Davis still has some work to do in order to get drafted, but his performance on Saturday was perfect.

He completed seven of his 10 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown. With the clock winding down in the second quarter, he hit LaRon Byrd for a three-yard score to give the East a 17-14 halftime lead.

In his senior season at Southern Miss, Davis threw for 3,496 yards and 30 touchdowns. I expect him to be drafted in the seventh round.

Tyler Hansen, West

Hansen was very accurate in the Shrine game, completing 12 of his 17 passes for 144 yards. He didn't throw for any scores, but he had a three-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Unfortunately for Hansen, he wasn't nearly as accurate in his senior season at Colorado. He completed just 56.1 percent of his passes on the year.

Despite his strong play on Saturday, I doubt Hansen will be drafted. However, he definitely played good enough to get invited to some post-draft camps as a free agent.
