WWE Must Bring Tim Tebow, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez to WrestleMania 28

Mike ChiariJan 21, 2012

The very basis of WrestleMania was built upon celebrity involvement, so it stands to reason that Vince McMahon will pursue some mainstream stars for this year's event. If Vince wants to ensure success, then he must do everything he can to reel in Tim Tebow, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez.

Vince does like to call his business sports entertainment after all, so why not bring in perhaps the three most recognizable stars in sports today. Tebow, quarterback of the Denver Broncos, very well may be the most talked about athlete currently. Also, New York Yankees Jeter and Rodriguez have been major stars for the past decade.

Of course, I'm not pulling these athletes out of thin air as they all have some sort of connection to WWE right now. Tebow recently became the co-owner of an elite training facility in Tampa, Fla. called the D1 Sports Training and Therapy facility.

It just so happens that one of the other co-owners is none other than Chris Jericho. It's no secret that Jericho recently returned to WWE programming, and all signs point to him possibly feuding with CM Punk over the WWE Championship. How great would it be for the pure and good Tebow to turn heel on the straight edge CM Punk and help his business associate win the title?

Tebow was also recently mentioned by "Stone Cold" Steve Austin after he threw for 316 yards in a playoff upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Austin said he would give Tebow his "Austin 3:16" moniker if he turned the trick against the New England Patriots.

That didn't happen, but it's still interesting to note. With The Rock headlining WrestleMania in a match against John Cena, it's only fitting that the event is taking place in The Rock's hometown of Miami, Fla. Tebow attended the University of Florida, and the NFL will be firmly in its offseason on April 1, so all the pieces are in place.

Jeter and A-Rod may not be quite as obvious, but there's a place for them as well. In fact, at the Ceteres celebrity golf tournament for the Turn 2 Foundation, Jeter, the Yankee captain and member of the 3,000-hit club, was seen paling around with Cena after teeing off.

You might be thinking that Jeter couldn't possibly swing appearing at WrestleMania since the Major League Baseball season will have already started. When you look a little closer, however, by some miracle the Yankees will be playing the Miami Marlins on the road in an interleague series on April 1. Perhaps a certain Mile High Messiah by the name of Tebow had a little something to do with said miracle.

The game is also at 1:10 p.m., and since the Yankees don't play again until the next night against the Marlins, there's no reason why an appearance can't happen. It's actually quite amazing when you think about it because interleague series never have taken place this early in the season.

Obviously, this also qualifies A-Rod as a possible WrestleMania participant. In addition to being of Dominican descent and having lived in Miami as a child, Rodriguez is also currently dating former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson. The pair made their first official public appearance together recently at the opening of a gym in Mexico.

Wilson is still apparently on good terms with the company since she more or less retired with an injury, so I could certainly see Vince working out an arrangement with her to appear with her new baseball-playing beau at the biggest event in sports entertainment.

My idea for Jeter and Rodriguez involves the main event. Cena figures to be the villain since WrestleMania is in The Rock's hometown, so Jeter and A-Rod can accompany Cena since they'll be villains of sorts as opponents of the Marlins.

Perhaps, following a Rock victory, Jeter and A-Rod can turn on Cena and assist The Rock in a beatdown of the leader of the Cenation. This could be explained by the fact that Cena is actually a fan of the Boston Red Sox, and the Yankees wanted to send a message to their biggest rival.

Either that or Jeter and A-Rod can start off on The Rock's side, but switch allegiances to Cena after Cena wins. Then Jeter and A-Rod could rip off their shirts, revealing Red Sox jerseys.

OK, I may have gotten a little ahead of myself there. In fact, as a diehard Yankee fan, I'm not sure I could handle seeing Jeter in those colors, even if it's just a wrestling angle.

You have to admit that it would be very Mike Tyson-esque, though, at WrestleMania 14. Tyson entered the match on the side of Shawn Michaels and D-Generation X, but he counted for Austin when the official was knocked out and ripped off his DX shirt in favor of a Stone Cold shirt.

Some of those ideas are admittedly far-fetched, and it may seem unlikely that Vince will be able to land one if any of those stud athletes. Those three guys alone would appeal to such a wide range of people, though.

Tebow would bring in the religious radicals, Jeter would bring in the love-starved women and A-Rod, of course, would bring in the maniacal steroid freaks. The amount of money that McMahon could make on this WrestleMania with The Rock and all those athletes is simply staggering.

It seems as though all the stars are aligned, so all Vince has to do now is make some calls and have his pocketbook ready.
