Australian Open 2012: Power Ranking Most Entertaining Finals Possibilites
Sadly enough, Australian Open fans will not be seeing a Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal final, nor will there be a Serena vs. Kvitova or Wozniacki vs. Clijsters.
Nevertheless, the finals possibilities seem endless, and the fans Down Under are intrigued to see who will play in the title match.
The Big Four in the men's game look certain to possess at least one contender for the final, while the women's field is an entirely different story, with the toughest encounters happening even prior to the semifinals.
Let's have a look at the most entertaining match-ups for the men's and women's finals and see which will be more anticipated than others.
4. Kvitova vs. Clijsters
1 of 4The two hottest players on tour (tennis-wise, of course) besides Serena are these players—one being a youngster who has just won her first major and the other being a multiple Grand Slam champion.
It will be tough to imagine them both reaching the finals, though. Petra will have to most likely face Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova and Serena on her way to the final. Meanwhile, Kim will have to play Li Na, Caroline Wozniacki, Jelena Jankovic, Julia Goerges or Victoria Azarenka.
It is very possible that both of these athletes will fall prior to the seventh match, but we would be in for a treat if they did, in fact, make it all the way.
3. Serena Williams vs. Wozniacki
2 of 4It is true that the previous times these two superstars have played, Serena came out the victor in an easy fashion.
However, the debate from 2010 still plagues the minds of all people in the tennis world: If Serena is better, why doesn't she have the higher ranking or the No. 1 spot?
The answer to that question is very apparent now, but since the thought was conjured up, Caroline has not slipped from the top spot.
Most people either want to see Wozniacki fail or succeed with no in-between. She must prove herself to the world and win her first major before the pressure accumulates into a burden too heavy to lift off.
Serena is a threat to win any tournament, but I would be shocked if she took this one.
2. Djokovic/Murray vs. Nadal
3 of 4To be honest, I have seen quite enough of Nole and Rafa playing each other in finals.
I have no doubt that Rafa will start to beat Novak again, but I just do not want to see them play each other this time around. They should save the quality entertainment for Roland Garros.
On the flip side, everybody loves to see Rafa and the Djoker go at it, so it would still be a grueling match with the deadliest of lengthy points being fought on the battlefield.
Andy Murray has been in sublime form and it would not surprise me if he (or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga) made the final of this major—yes, even if it involves him taking out Djokovic.
The Big Four do not impress me just by how consistent they are, but also by how wonderful the matches are when they play each other (with the exception of last year's Aussie Open final).
1. Federer vs. Djokovic
4 of 4I am not quite sure what is so entertaining about these guys when they face off in Slams, but I love it.
They have many quick service holds, but there are also impeccable shot-making shows when we most want to see them.
I believe Roger will win the Australian Open but if he loses, I would rather it be to Novak than Andy Murray any day.
Hopefully these two make it through and give us the final showdown we've never gotten to see at the Australian Open before.
