Australian Open 2012 TV Schedule: Top Matches To Watch on Day 7
Day 7 at the 2012 Australian Open in Melbourne promises to produce some fireworks.
A few former tournament champions will be in action on both the men's and women's side as we take another step towards determining the first Grand Slam champs of 2012.
So, which matches are more must-see than others? Check it out.
Rafael Nadal (2) vs. Feliciano Lopez (18)
Two of the top Spaniards in the tournament will meet in the fourth round on Day 7. Nadal knocked off Lukas Lacko in straight sets in the third round, while Lopez struggled to outlast American John Isner.
Nadal has not won the Aussie Open since 2009, and could contend with Novak Djokovic for tennis' No. 1 ranking with a win at this year's event. The 30-year-old Lopez isn't quite the athlete he was years ago, but he showed in 2009 that he is quarterfinal material.
Tomas Berdych (7) vs. Nicolas Almagro (10)
A pair of top-ranked 26-year-olds will go at it on Day 7 in Melbourne as well. Tomas Berdych from the Czech Republic made it to the quarterfinals of the 2011 Aussie Open, while Almagro has fell in the fourth round the last two years in a row.
Both won in straight sets to reach the fourth round and the winner will face either Nadal or Lopez in the quarterfinal round.
Roger Federer (3) vs. Bernard Tomic
The Great One will be pitted against a hometown favorite on Day 7. Australian Bernard Tomic will have his hands full and the crowd pumped as he challenges Roger Federer for a spot in the men's quarterfinals.
The 19-year-old Tomic will have youth on his side though, as he takes on the 30-year-old legend and his aging legs.
Kim Clijsters (11) vs. Li Na (5)
Kim Clijsters and Li Na will face off in a rematch of their 2011 Aussie Open final on Day 7. The two tennis veterans will meet for a spot in the women's quarterfinals this time around, though.
Both have been equally impressive so far in the tournament, and the winner will be a legitimate challenger to No. 1-ranked Caroline Wozniacki for the 2012 crown.
