The Doctor's Smackdown Recap: The 101 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated
This week's SmackDown was in Las Vegas, and WWE went all out with their roulette wheel theme for the night. Following what was a very good episode of Raw, I feel WWE dropped the ball a bit with this SmackDown.
There were plenty of gimmick matches to go around. Ted Dibiase fought Hunico in a flag match, which saw the former Legacy member get the win.
The Usos and The Colons fought in the first tornado tag team match I have seen on WWE television in years, and Cody Rhodes defeated Justin Gabriel after he came to the aide of Hornswoggle.

Daniel Bryan's third title match in as many weeks ended in just as much confusion and mayhem as his first two.
We were treated, or should I say punished, to a dance off between Brodus Clay and Vickie, and eventually William Regal joined in on the, um, fun, I guess?
Normally, I do these recap lists for Raw, but this week I had the chance to do one for SmackDown.
For those of you who have not read my recap lists before, they are equal parts recap, preview, questions, answers, humor, revelations and speculations. I try to have a bit of fun with these, so I hope you enjoy the 101 things we learned, loved and hated from this week's SmackDown.
1. The show opens with a video recapping last week when AJ got injured.
2. Am I the only one who thinks WWE got lazy and just gave AJ some of Ashley Massaro's old ring gear?
3. Daniel Bryan opens up the show talking about Big Show running over AJ in their match.
4. Cole is defending Bryan for the first time without also insulting him a little bit.
4. I wish SmackDown did not use "canned" audience noise so we could hear if he is really getting booed this bad.
5. Wait, Big Show is 441 pounds? Why do they always say 500 pounds on commentary?
6. Bryan is still playing innocent about putting AJ in danger.
7. We go backstage to the casino room.
8. Santino and Hornswoggle are staring at Alicia Fox, who is quite gorgeous.
9. Cleopatra is seducing Teddy Long again.
10. No saxophone music this week? I actually miss it, it works well for her image.
11. Cody Rhodes comes in and talks trash, even to Aksana, who is doing nothing but looking good.
12. He spins the wheel and gets player's choice.
13. At first we think he is challenging Ezekial Jackson, but then we see he was pointing to little Horny.
14. Rhodes comes out and attacks Hornswoggle before the match.
15. Gabriel makes the save and Rhodes accepts his challenge to a non-title match.
16. I like that Rhodes occasionally uses the Alabama Slam since it was Bob Holly who first put him over in the WWE when he debuted.
17. They have a pretty good match, given how short it was; Rhodes wins with Cross Rhodes.
19. I miss Bob Holly, he brought a legitimate tough guy feel to any match he was in.
20. Probably because that guy was tough as nails in real life, remember when he had a huge cut across his back on ECW that was nearly two feet long and he finished the match? (See video above.)
21. Mark Henry spins the wheel and lands on Lumberjack match for his title match with Bryan later.
22. Henry still seems like he is acting like a heel, but I get the feeling WWE wants to turn him face sometimes—confusing.
23. We get The Usos vs. Epico and Primo next.
24. Booker is plugging yet another cheap WWE wrestling ring toy that spins for some reason.
25. They are having a tornado tag team match, which I have not seen in WWE in quite some time.
26. Decent back and forth, but this would have been better as a normal tag match.
27. The Usos do some nice double team moves before Rosa provides enough of a distraction to help her team get the win.
28. Ever since Rosa dyed her hair black, I have been saying she is the new Melina, but I think she has surpassed Melina as a heel manager, she is so much more annoying.
29. Booker likes her little post-match dance, I don't disagree.
30. Sheamus is backstage with Teddy and Aksana, spinning the wheel to get a tables match with Wade Barrett tonight.
31. Teddy asks Aksana to yank, oops, spin the wheel.
32. Nice PG joke. Where's R-Truth to yell "I don't even know if that's PG" when you need him?
33. Oh great, a dance off.
34. Just when I was liking Brodus Clay, WWE has to put him in one of these segments; they always end up being horrible.
35. Still love his theme song and entrance, though.
36. And his opponent is Vickie Guerrero; I guess this gives me a chance to hit the head and grab a snack.
37. She talks like and idiot (shizzle, really?) before channeling Elaine from Seinfeld for her dance.
38. Clay is up next, and he uses his dancers in his dance, which will obviously win over Vickie.
39. Clay is just staring right at Vickie as he shimmies and takes his jacket off.
40. That was creepy and kind of funny at the same time.
41. You have to give Vickie credit for being willing to make an ass of herself on TV all the time.
42. Why is William Regal here?
43. His English manners are making him save this buxom wench.
44. Clay challenges Regal to another dance off, and he accepts.
45. Am I the only one who heard Clay say "Funky Chicken" without the "N" in Funky? Sort of sounded not so PG.
46. Regal also deserves credit for being made into an ass many times over the years and taking it in stride.
47. His dance is way better than Vickie's, but it's still awful.
48. Clay hits his running cross body and then spouts some catch phrases.
49. The fact that it had Clay and Regal made this not a total train wreck, but it was close.
50. By the way, Regal is literally the most under-rated performer on the roster.
51. Question: Is Brodus Clay's music an original WWE theme song or is that a real song they used from someone? I want it.
52. I am going to listen to some Ojays after the show; I need more funk.
53. Lord Barrett comes out for his tables match with Sheamus.
54. I like this feud; they have good chemistry in the ring.
55. Jinder Mahal comes out and distracts Sheamus so Barrett can put him through a table.
56. Mahal tries to follow up the match by putting Sheamus through another table, but Sheamus reverses and puts Mahal through it with a running spine buster-type move.
57. Another commercial for this WWE toy ring airs. They have made so many awful gimmick rings over the years, but this takes the cake.
58. It's funny how Evan Bourne gets suspended and the this anti-bullying campaign airs with him in it; I guess it was too late to edit him out, which you know they would have.
59. After commercial, Dibiase makes his way to the ring, the crowd looks dead.
60. Hunico and Camacho are out next for a flag match.
61. Have they had one of these since Bret Hart faced The Patriot?
62. Cole likes to answer his own questions.
63. Ha, Hunico isn't even tall enough to reach the flag.
64. Camacho barely makes it to save Hunico from a crash to the floor.
65. They show some guys who obviously got to hang with Dibiase before the show.
66. They replay CM Punk's promo against Laurinaitis on Raw.
67. I am glad JL is finally getting angry.
68. He's not gonna take it, NO! he ain't gonna take it, he's not gonna take it anymore.
69. I bet no one expected a Twisted Sister lyric to make its way onto this list.
70. Drew is begging to get another chance.
71. Santino calls him Drew Macintosh; one of his better nicknames for people.
72. Santino wants to face him again and asks Teddy to reinstate him.
73. Drew spins the wheel and gets a blindfold match.
74. Does that mean the audience gets to wear them, too?
75. Seriously, I get gimmick matches, but this one is just terrible.
76. The only thing I like about this match was that Santino put a blind fold on his cobra sleeve, too.
77. Poor Drew Mcintyre, I guess who you choose to marry will affect your WWE career.
78. Santino high-fives Charles Robinson after the match.
79. Is it bad that I know the name of that ref without them saying it?
80. This commercial for Journey 2 with The Rock is tons of ammunition for Cena to make fun of him the next time they have a face-to-face confrontation.
81. There are people at ringside for the lumber jack match that I forgot were on the SmackDown roster.
82. Henry and Bryan are both heels right now, so I am curious to see how the crowd reacts.
83. Which I won't really know since WWE can edit in any reaction they want.
84. I know it is more expensive, but I think if SmackDown were live, more people would watch rather than read the spoilers.
85. Daniel Bryan almost goes to the outside after a shove and tells the lumberjacks "Don't you touch me."
86. Ha, Wade Barrett just said, "Or what?" back to him; pretty funny for some reason.
87. Why isn't Brodus one of the lumberjacks?
88. Clay is not the only one who can shout catchphrases during a match.
89. Henry yells "All day long" after smacking Bryan to the mat.
90. The lumberjacks don't touch Bryan when he rolls out, they just stare him down till he climbs back in the ring.
91. Henry picks up Bryan and tosses him out onto about six lumberjacks.
92. Bryan gets into a fight with them.
93. Bryan provokes the lumberjacks and they storm the ring.
94. Henry is trying to clear them out, but they just turn on him and the whole roster gets in and starts beating down Henry.
95. Bryan crawls out of the ring to safety while everyone brawls.
96. This reminds me of those old cartoons where The Tazmanian Devil would start going nuts on Bugs Bunny, Bugs would crawl out from underneath and then eat a carrot as he watches Taz basically fight himself.
97. Bryan is backstage complaining to Teddy about how three weeks in a row his matches have ended badly.
98. Long makes a match at The Rumble for Bryan vs. Show vs. Henry for the title
98. Bryan looks pissed.
99. I wonder why Big Show wasn't around this week.
100. This was a poor SmackDown following a really good Raw, at least in my opinion.
101. Look at that, my first recap list to be exactly 100 items, wait—dammit.
Well, there you have it, folks. Please feel free to share your thoughts and additions to the list below, and I wish anyone out in this snow storm in the Midwest a safe trip to wherever you might be going.
