East-West Shrine Game 2012: Which Senior Stars Have the Most to Prove?

Tim KeeneyJan 21, 2012

The East-West Shrine Game has always been about more than just football. It combines great football with a great cause, as players and coaches get to tour Shriners Hospitals for Children.

To go along with the positive message of the game, some seniors are there to prove they belong in the NFL.

Here's a look at which seniors have the most to prove today at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be shown on NFL Network.

Is the Price Wright?

Jarius Wright of Arkansas is quite possibly the best prospect at this game, but according to Wes Bunting of National Football Post, "the undersized wideout didn't have the dynamic week of practice (we) expected."

Despite playing in the defensively-minded SEC, Wright managed to pull in 66 catches this season for over 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns. Still, his lack of size puts him at a second- or third-round pick.

If Wright plays well in this game, he could really drive his stock up. Even if he doesn't, Wright looks like a potential draft-day steal as a big-play receiver.

Wait, Tight Ends Actually Block These Days?

The success of Jimmy Graham, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Jermichael Finley and so many other big, athletic tight ends has really changed the position. Tight ends are starting to act much more like receivers than like linemen, like they used to.

Kevin Koger of Michigan has displayed the ability to do both.

From Bunting:

"

"Koger was a dominant blocker all practice long, stopping opponents dead in their tracks. He made a terrific 25-yard reception down the seam in scrimmage, displaying natural pass-catching skills."

"

Koger will have to show some more of those pass-catching skills during this game, but his stock could seriously improve with a big game. And some catches like this won't hurt, either:

Character Concerns, Schmaracter Shoncerns

According to Bunting, Josh Norman has been the MVP all week long. The Coastal Carolina cornerback is long, physical, athletic and "exhibits a very natural feel deciphering routes developing in front of him."

Norman is a first- or second-round talent, but those pesky character concerns that always hurt players' stock has bit Norman in the behind.

If he has a good showing in this game, he could very easily cause teams to forget about the character concerns. If not, his stock is going to drop.

No player has more pressure on him than Norman.
