Arsenal vs. Manchester United: Wayne Rooney Will Outshine Robin van Persie

Michael MillJun 7, 2018

The rematch between Arsenal and Manchester United is one of the more anticipated rivalries in the soccer world.

Last August, Wayne Rooney and Manchester United completely crushed Arsenal in an 8-2 beating that left Arsenal embarrassed.

The loss was one of the worst Arsenal has suffered in the last century.

Manchester United striker Rooney managed a hat trick in the game, and hopes to repeat that performance when the two teams face off again on Sunday.

The buildup of this match has focused around Rooney vs. Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.

There are many that feel like the player that has the better day will ultimately lead their team to victory.

On paper, the two are nearly identical.

Rooney, however, believes that this game is about much more than him vs. van Persie.

"

"Sunday isn’t about me and Van Persie. It’s about us against Arsenal. That’s what we’ll be focusing on. Van Persie is playing really well. He’ll be the biggest threat for Arsenal on Sunday. He and Aaron Ramsey are certainly the two who have stood out for them this season.”

"

Rooney is right. Soccer is the ultimate team game.

That said, it's likely that he and van Persie will have a strong influence on the outcome of the game. The striker that plays better will likely walk out with a win.

Arsenal is currently fourth in the race for the Premier League. Manchester United is clearly the better team taking the field.

Don't expect another 8-2 beating, but another solid day from Rooney and Manchester United will walk away with a win.
