WWE: 11 Wrestlers Who Provide the Best Matches for CM Punk

David LevinJun 7, 2018

CM Punk has the unique knack of being able to sell for many a WWE wrestler and has the ability to put wrestlers over who are in need of a push.

You cannot say that about every wrestler on the WWE roster. And for someone whom John Cena said was the only man worthy of being in the ring with him, that is quite a statement. Cena has faced almost every wrestler in the locker room in the WWE.

But when it comes to providing the best opportunity for a great match, the list gets a little shorter for Punk. His style is so contrasting, so undisciplined and so unpredictable. And for those reasons, he is the best in the business today.

With the dwindling numbers of wrestlers due to injuries, finding great opponents is also an issue. While the Kanes, Sheamuses and Wade Barretts are all in the middle of different angles, there is always someone who can come through and give Punk a decent match. But it takes Punk and his ability to make it a great match.

Alberto Del Rio

When it is Del Rio and not his midget in the ring with him, this is a better matchup than you think.

For everything that Del Rio is, and at times, that is boring, he is still a great technical wrestler with an edge to him.

Del Rio's injury may have put a crimp in the creative team's idea for future world title opportunities, but when he comes back, the Mexican Aristocrat will have his hands full with opponents, and hopefully, we will see both these competitors battle again.

Kurt Angle

I personally would love to see this match. It cannot happen because both are in different promotions, but it would be interesting.

Could Punk keep up with the cardio training of Angle, who, at 43, is doing it better than most 23-year-olds in this business today.

Rob Van Dam

Personally, I think this happens if Van Dam indeed returns to the WWE.

The two styles would contrast nicely and provide a great backdrop toward a WrestleMania 28 match.

Could Van Dam be the 30th opponent to run down the ramp?

Cody Rhodes

He is the best heel in the WWE right now and the best talent on Smackdown.

Could he and Punk make a great rivalry? I think so.

Rhodes is a good technical wrestler who needs to be pushed a bit to get more out of him. While Randy Orton has been out of action and involved in a feud with Wade Barrett, not having Rhodes and Orton in a storyline actually hurts Rhodes.

Christian

He is still one of the best in the ring. The talented veteran could make even the weakest of wrestlers look good.

But when he returns, what happens to him? I would love to see him turn face and challenge Chris Jericho or The Miz. Maybe a Jack Swagger angle.

Randy Orton

We have seen this before, and it was pretty good.

When Orton challenged the Nexus, it was five on one. But it did something interesting in the end.

We saw Punk as a mic man and a great innovator, and we started to see the inner workings of Punk. This started him towards the stardom he has reached today.

The Miz

I don't like what has happened to him once he got over on R-Truth.

His character is a little off base, and it is a little disturbing.

He is one of the best on the mic, and his in-ring skills are getting better.

Creative needs to find the right angle for him. This one is not working.

Jeff Hardy

Another TNA star that actually had a good run with Punk before.

These two unconventional wrestlers could tear it up on any given night. And I am sure the fans would love to see that kind of angle again.

When these two did meet, it was lighting in a bottle, Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho or maybe Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat.

Chris Jericho

9 of 11

I thought Jericho was being brought back to challenge Punk for the WWE Championship.

Now, I am not so sure.

Can Jericho do more talking and lot more wrestling? The fans sure want to see that.

John Cena

10 of 11

I thought for a moment we would see the two of them get fired up on Raw tonight. Instead, they became tag team partners.

I am hoping it goes back to the days when they were beating the hell out of each other. When they were at odds, it was some of the best wrestling and the best rivalry we had seen in years.

It was Hogan and Randy Savage all over again.

Dolph Ziggler

11 of 11

No one has made Ziggler look better in the ring than Punk.

And Ziggler has worked hard to make the most of this opportunity, even if it is with the help of John Laurinaitis and Vickie Guerrero.

Look for Ziggler to look his best this coming weekend at the Royal Rumble.

"The Show Off" will be able to show us if he is the real deal or not.
