NFL Draft 2012: Vontaze Burfict and More First-Round Busts

Tim KeeneyJun 1, 2018

The 2012 NFL Draft is only a couple months away and teams are eager to improve their weaknesses.

Not so fast.

The draft may be the easiest way to make your team better, but it's not a sure thing. Don't expect all 32 teams to be happy about this draft a year from now.

Here's a look at four incoming players with a good chance to disappoint.

Vontaze Burfict, LB Arizona State

Burfict is an amazing talent.

He is big and incredibly athletic. Last year he was seen as a Top 10 pick and the next Ray Lewis

But the junior struggled all season.  He was benched multiple times and his character became an issue. He figured the best remedy for all this was to leave school a year early and enter a league he probably isn't ready for.

The talent is there, but character issues have lowered his stock. Whoever drafts him will be sorry.

Michael Floyd, WR Notre Dame

Floyd put together an incredibly productive senior season, pulling in 100 catches for 1,147 yards and nine touchdowns. Those numbers are even more impressive considering the inconsistent quarterback play.

Because he's a big receiver (6'3") with that big-play ability, he's seen as a Top 20 pick. But Floyd only tallied 11.5 yards per catch this season–the worst of his career–he struggled to consistently make big plays.

He doesn't have the speed to get down-field and according to Scouts Inc., he is "not very elusive and will not make the first defender miss with any consistency."

Floyd looks like more of a possession receiver than big-play stud. That doesn't merit a first-round pick.

Andrew Luck QB, Stanford.

Just kidding.

Devon Still DT, Penn State

Still had a very good 2011 season for the Nittany Lions that vaulted him into the prospective first round.

But his durability is in question.

He tore his ACL back in 2007 and then broke his ankle in 2008. As a result, he spent five years at Penn State and comes out a little older than most prospects.

Still doesn't do anything exceptionally well.

He is above average against the run, but according to ESPN, he is "not a powerful bull-rusher that can consistently collapse the pocket."

And with average quickness, he won't get to the quarterback like a first-rounder should.
