Gunner Kiel: Recruitment Flip-Flops Show QB Is a Potential Bust

Gunner Kiel has displayed some troubling tendencies during recruitment that cause me to believe he'll end up disappointing the Fighting Irish and their fans.

It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Kiel would be enrolling at LSU this week. After all, he had verbally committed, right?

Instead, Kiel shocked everyone and decided to go with Notre Dame at the 11th hour. Actually, it should have shocked nobody. It wasn't the first time this happened, remember?

Kiel had previously given his "commitment" to Indiana before "committing" to LSU. 

This looks even worse if you believe the rumors that Kiel's mom is the one who caused this latest flip-flop. 

What we see here is an unquestionably talented young man who can't make up his own mind and who is controlled by his mother.

I see a blowup of massive proportions happening at some point in the next few years for this young man. 

The flip-flops show me that he doesn't see the value in keeping his word. I know that technically he isn't committed until he signs on the dotted line, but verbal commitments used to mean something.

The fact that his mom is making the decisions for him (allegedly) shows that he has yet to develop a sense of who he is as a man. This should have been his decision, and his alone. 

Remember Landon Collins?

He's the young man who chose Alabama over LSU on live television, while his mom rolled her eyes. She wanted him to go to LSU. You can watch the video here.

Kiel should have manned up like Collins and made his own choices. Lord knows he's going to do it at some point, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him become a massive failure at Notre Dame only to find success somewhere else in the future.

Quarterbacks need to be the most decisive men on the football field, and Kiel has struggled with it in this, the biggest decision of his young life.

Time will tell if these troubling signs will lead to disaster or if Kiel will grow up in a hurry, but I haven't seen anything out of the young man to suggest anything other than failure.
