Stefon Diggs Visiting Florida: Why Will Muschamp Can Seal the Deal Before NSD
As the recruiting process is heating up, the focus is centering more and more on some of the top prospects remaining. We're getting closer and closer to National Signing Day and it's about that time for some of the top prospects to make their decision.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs is one the top players that is still uncommitted. He's rated as one of the top prospects in the country by several recruiting websites and is a top-two wide receiver. He's a speedster that is a threat to take it the distance every time the ball is in his hands.
His commitment will really help out the offense of whichever lucky team he decides to go with.
He has offers from nearly every top school in the country, but is mainly focused on schools like Florida, California, USC, Maryland and recently Auburn. He just got back from his visit with the Tigers and they now appear to be the front-runner for his services.
Well, at least if you're listening to what he's saying about the visit to Auburn (insider article):
""That is my man," Diggs said about Auburn wide receivers coach, Trooper Taylor. "I am going to call him ‘Pops’ from now on because that is a good guy, somebody I can build a relationship with. We are really making progress. If I chose Auburn I wouldn’t mind playing for him. He is a great coach and he is coaching a great group of guys."
"
I say, not so fast.
If you've been following the entire recruiting process with Diggs, you'll know that he enjoys playing with the media and leading them in the wrong direction. Not saying he isn't interested in Auburn—it is a top program to play for—but the school that has remained consistent is Florida.
The Gators were considered the favorite to land Diggs from the beginning and appear to be back on track to land him. The only time they fell out of the race was when they lost offensive coordinator Charlie Weis to Kansas.
But now that they have landed Brent Pease, they are back in the race and are likely the favorite. You can even hear Diggs himself say that the Gators are back in the race here.
Pease ran the Boise State offense down to a science and was a wide receivers coach for several years for the Broncos. He knows how to get the most out of his players and puts them in the best position to succeed. Diggs would thrive under this offense and put up ridiculous numbers.
We also already know which school his mother would like him to attend, as she visited the school without her son already. Now Diggs will make his official visit with the program later this week and it's hard to believe he will say no to the school he was heavily considering already.
Diggs may be considering a lot of schools, but the favorite remains the one he will visit later this week.
