Nazr Mohammed Video: Watch Thunder Center's Epic Halfcourt Heave Fail
The halfcourt buzzer beater has become such a huge part of the NBA that everyone wants to at least try it once. In the case of Oklahoma City Thunder center Nazr Mohammed, he was so excited to see the clock ticking down that he couldn't even wait for the buzzer.
In the Thunder's game against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night, Mohammed stripped the ball from Andray Blatche with just under six seconds to play in the first quarter. He then proceeded to heave a shot from beyond halfcourt that landed out of bounds with 2.7 seconds left.
It's hard to pick on Mohammed for his failure with this shot. He is averaging less than four shot attempts per game, so he was just trying to keep up with that torrid pace.
Looking at the bigger picture, the Thunder lost the game in by three points, so if Mohammed had made his shot the game would have gone into overtime. Perhaps he had some sixth sense about what was going to happen at the end of the game, so he was trying to ensure that didn't happen.
Don't get too down on Mohammed or the Thunder, though. They are still leading the Northwest Division with a 12-3 record and had won seven straight games prior to last night.
And for Mohammed, he has a moment that he will remember for the rest of his career. It's probably not the kind of thing that he wants to keep in his memory bank, but everyone has one of those moments where they just don't know what they are doing.
Let's just hope this was an isolated incident for him.
