Terrell Owens: Controversial WR Announces He's Headed to IFL

Terrell Owens is baaaaack!!

Well, sort of.

The second all-time leading receiver in NFL history has made it official, he’s playing football again:

OK, so it’s not the NFL…it’s the Indoor Football League. He’ll be playing for the Allen Wranglers in Allen, Texas. According to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Dallas Star-Telegram, he will also be a part owner in addition to playing on the field as a wide receiver.

In the 22-second video, T.O. looked incredibly excited to get back on the field. Here is the transcript:

It’s official. It just went down. I’m headed back to Texas. IFL here I come. Allen, Texas, here I come. 

According to the Star-Telegram, the Wranglers offered Owens a deal worth up to $500,000 for the 2012 season. Doesn’t sound like much? The average IFL player earns $225 per game and an additional bonus for winning the game.

This is a sharp decline from what the six-time Pro Bowler is used to. Owens earned over $70 million in his career as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.

But after the 38-year-old tore his knee in early 2011, the phone wasn’t ringing to bring him back for another season in the NFL. The combination of his questionable health and volatile personality were enough to scare away even the most receiver-needy teams.

So why doesn’t he just retire and laugh all the way to the bank?

In November of 2011, a judge announced that Owens has four different child-support cases. He currently has to pay almost $60,000 a month to four different women for his children, and $63,000 a month for their living arrangements. His home in Georgia has been foreclosed and he was living in his girlfriend’s condo in Los Angeles before signing with the Wranglers.

So half a million dollars sounds great!
