Australian Open 2012 Scores: Jan. 18 Scores and Results Summary

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

The 2012 Australian Open continues to roll on, as some of the world's best have advanced to the third round of play.

Since it's early in the Grand Slam event, the elite players rarely struggle. Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka all took to the court last and some had it easier than others.

The stars weren't the only ones in action, as players from around the world were giving it their all Down Under.

Below is a list of how some of the top players performed on Wednesday, but to view all scores go here.

Men's Singles

Rafael Nadal (2) def. Tommy Haas: 6-4, 6-3, 6-4

Despite having a twisted tendon in his knee, which was heavily taped, Nadal continued his dominance. The match lasted two-and-a-half hours.

Roger Federer (3) def. Andreas Beck: Withdraw

The Swiss tennis player was prepared to endure a tough battle today, but his opponent had a back injury and had to withdraw. Federer gets another day of rest, which benefits him in the long run during this Major ever.

Tomas Berdych (7) def. Olivier Rochus: 6-1, 6-0, 7-6(4)

Berdych made quick work of Rochus in the first two sets, but Rochus fought back hard in the third. Unfortunately, Berdych was too much for him, and advances to the third round.

Alejandro Falla def. Mardy Fish (8): 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 7-6 (8-6)

Fish becomes the first player in the Top 10 to lose during the 2012 Australian Open.

John Isner (16) def. David Nalbandian: 4-6, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(5), 10-8

After dropping the first set, Isner managed a great comeback in this intense match. Nalbandian got into a few run-ins with the chair umpire because he wouldn't review a close call. The match lasted four hours and 41 minutes.

Women's Singles

Caroline Wozniacki (1) def. Anna Tatishvili: 6-1, 7-6(4)

The No. 1 overall seed on the women's draw made quick work of Tatishvilli to continue her quest for her first Grand Slam win.

Victoria Azarenka (3) def. Casey Dellacqua: 6-1, 6-0

Surging Azarenka showed no signs of struggle in her second match of the tournament. If she keeps rolling like this, she could be the world No. 1 once the tournament is all said and done.

Na Li (5) def. Olivia Rogowska: 6-2, 6-2

The reigning French Open champ had no problem advancing to the third round. Its possible that she could meet Kim Clijsters in the fourth round in a rematch of last year's final at the Australian Open.

Kim Clijsters (11) def. Stephanie Foretz Gacon: 6-0, 6-1

Clijsters needed only 47 minutes to beat Stephanie Foretz Gacon, proving that she can still compete at a high level.
