WWE: John Cena Turning Heel Will Make Him a Face

John Cena's current happy-go-lucky gimmick has lost its steam with the majority of WWE fans and an alter to his character is necessary.

While he does not necessarily have to turn heel, a heel turn would make a lot of people happy.

Fans have turned on Cena, as his superhero-type character that is able to overcome any obstacle that gets in his way is no longer cheered as much as it was a few years ago.

The buzz around John Cena is that he should turn heel. It appears as if Cena may be turning heel or changing his gimmick because of his current feud with Kane. Kane is trying to get Cena to embrace the people's hate instead of rising above it. Kane could be the final breaking point that sets Cena off the ledge and turning him heel.

As we saw on the January 16, Monday Night Raw, Cena was not his usual self. He came out for his match against Jack Swagger and brutally beat down Swagger before the match even started.

This is an act that was out of character for John Cena. He walked on to the stage and did not try to pump the crowd up or salute. Then he ran down to the ring and instead of throwing his shirt to the crowd, he threw it at Swagger and instantly attacked him.Cena was angry and filled with rage. His intensity never let up as he continued to pummel Swagger.

One thing that stood out was the crowd's reactions to John Cena's heel-like actions. The crowd was behind him and cheering every time that he hit Swagger. The fans want Cena to turn heel. They want Cena to change his gimmick. They want Cena to embrace the hate.

Just as Cena was about to deliver a career-threatening steel step shot to a beaten down Swagger, Kane interrupted and told Cena that "he thinks he is getting it," referring to Cena embracing the hate.

This change in John Cena's character and approach was similar to a heels. These actions caused the fans to support Cena, which they rarely do nowadays. If Cena continues to act as a heel, he will probably continue to get supported by the fans.

The WWE has seen the anti-hero character be strongly supported by the fans. Stone Cold Steve Austin is arguably the greatest and most popular WWE wrestler to ever walk the planet, and he was anti-hero. Austin did not care what people thought or what the consequences for his actions would be. In response, the fans loved it.

This summer, the anti-hero approach got a good response from the WWE fans. CM Punk criticized the WWE and Vince McMahon and the fans of the WWE chose to get behind CM Punk. Punk's heel like actions to criticize the company, caused Punk to turn from a heel to a face.

Since the WWE Universe is craving a John Cena heel turn, when he actually does turn heel, the fans will support it and he will be cheered as if he was a face.
