Mark Munoz Out, Michael Bisping to Face Chael Sonnen at UFC on Fox 2

Dale De SouzaJan 17, 2012

Looks like Chael Sonnen will get the chance to call out Anderson Silva one more time if he wins at UFC on Fox 2.

Dana White tweeted that the pride of West Linn, Oregon will be seeing a new opponent for his co-main event date in Michael "The Count" Bisping after Mark Munoz was forced out with an injury.

White did not disclose the specific injury, but the forcing-out of Munoz comes as a bit of breaking news to those believing that Munoz was potentially close to his own crack at UFC Middleweight gold opposite Anderson Silva, pending a win over Sonnen, who is still the only man to have come within a minute of handing Silva his first loss under the Zuffa banner

Brett Okamoto of ESPN, however, has confirmed that it is an arm injury that will force

Sonnen's new bout opposite Bisping is one that sees both coming off of solid one-sided victories, with Sonnen coming off of his UFC 136 win over Brian Stann, and Bisping winning by a third-round TKO over fellow TUF 14 coach Jason "Mayhem" Miller at the 14th season finale of The Ultimate Fighter.

The new bout also temporarily left one Demian Maia without a proverbial "dance partner" for the UFC on Fox 2 card, as Maia was to face Bisping on the main card of fight, and the initial announcement left many to wonder if he would be scratched altogether from the card or if a replacement would be found for the Brazilian.

Dana White tweeted, however, that Maia will face undefeated Chris Weidman at the UFC on Fox 2 card, and with Maia coming off of a win over Jorge Santiago and Weidman coming off of a UFC 139 win over Tom Lawlor, fans will finally get to see what happens when a top-tier middleweight challenges Weidman, who is undoubtedly one of the Middleweight division's top prospects.

The news of Maia vs. Weidman diffuses rumors of Rousimar Palhares stepping in to face Maia, as he is banged up from his UFC 142 bout with Mike Massenzio, but the news of Maia vs. Weidman certainly makes things all the more interesting as we come close to being a week away from the UFC's first official card under their new seven-year deal with Fox.
