WWE News: Very Latest on Christian Possibly Returning During Royal Rumble Match

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

News broke earlier this week that an advertisement for the WWE SmackDown live event in San Francisco on Feb. 11 is promoting a match featuring Christian against Sheamus.

Immediately, that caused a lot of speculation about Christian’s injury status and a possible upcoming return.

Captain Charisma has been out of action since early November after suffering a high ankle sprain on an overseas tour, and he has been almost completely absent from WWE TV since then. However, with Christian’s return to the ring seemingly around the corner, we can’t help but wonder if he’ll be back in time for the Royal Rumble match.

Here’s the very latest on Christian, his injury and status for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

"

WWE is expecting Christian to return within the next several weeks. The company is hoping for a return at the Royal Rumble, but as of now it isn't confirmed that he will be able to be cleared by then.

"

While it certainly looks like WWE officials are hoping and planning for a Christian return at the upcoming pay-per-view, I wouldn’t bank on that happening.

"

There are going to be reports about Christian possibly returning to the ring at Royal Rumble. While I’m not confirming or denying those reports, I was told by a source close to Christian late last month that he could still barely walk. My source informed me it was possible Christian could compete at the Rumble, however, he would have to make considerable strides from late December.

"

I’m certainly no doctor, but in January 2011, my brother suffered both a high and low ankle sprain. It took him a while before he was even able to run. If my memory serves me correctly, it was a good four months before he could put all of his weight on it and he still wasn’t at 100 percent.

My guess is that Christian is in the same boat my brother was in.

He likely wants to put more weight on it and feels like he’s getting better, but the second he tries to go all out, he sets himself back again. It’s a tricky injury to say the least, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still bothering Christian quite a bit.

Christian has had almost a month to improve since his ankle was in “rough shape,” but it’s doubtful that he’s got himself fully healthy in a three- or four-week span.

While I’m sure Christian is trying like crazy to get his ankle healthy and be able to return in time for the Royal Rumble match, it’s definitely far from a guarantee that he will.

I think I speak for all his peeps out there, though, when I say that we’d love to see him return as a surprise entrant in the Rumble match.
