2012 Australian Open TV Schedule: Extremely Fit Serena Williams Highlights Day 2
Wow, I thought Serena Williams said she didn’t like working out and playing sports.
We haven’t heard much from the greatest women’s tennis player of the last decade in the last few months, but now that the 2012 Australian Open is here, the stories are flooding in.
First, she admitted to not loving the sport of tennis. Serena claimed she “can’t live without it” though and that’s why she’s still here. Williams went on to say she hates working out and doing any sort of physical activity.
It may have all been a smokescreen. She showed up at Melbourne Park with an incredible six-pack that makes her look like a body builder. This is the best she has looked in years.
Her first-round match against Tamira Paszek of Austria on Tuesday morning (11 a.m. Aussie time) will give us a glimpse of just how great of shape Williams is currently in.
When she made her comeback in 2011, there was no question Serena wasn’t ready to compete against the top competition. Hard to blame her considering she dealt with a potential life-threatening blood clot and an incredibly scarred wounded foot. She still was able to reach the final of the U.S. Open.
With a full winter of training to prepare her, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Serena doesn’t reach at least the finals. Her power serve has returned and her conditioning will be top-notch.
Serena may not want to consistently work out and exert herself physically, but she is doing it and the rest of the women on the ATP tour better take note.
Here’s the entire schedule for Day 2.
