Australian Open 2012 TV Schedule: Matches Worth Watching on Day 3

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

No. 1 Novak Djokovic plays in day three of the Australian Open 2012 against Paolo Lorenzi, but we all know how that is going to end.

Instead, I'm here to give you three under-the-radar matches that you're going to want to keep an eye on in day three.

3. Milos Raonic vs. Filippo Volandri

This is more about Milos Raonic than anything.

The 21-year-old has only been pro since 2008, but he's already developing a reputation as a dangerous server. Using plenty of aces, Raonic captured the Chennai Open against No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic to begin 2012.

Raonic is currently ranked No. 25 in the world and his developing game is quickly garnering results.

2. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Denis Istomin

I've always loved Jo-Wilfried's game and how he competes against the giants of the sport. He beat Roger Federer at Wimbledon and in the Rogers Cup last year, and followed that up by beating Federer this year en route to winning the Qatar Open.

Tsonga is currently ranked No. 6 in the world and has a good chance to win a major this year. In fact, the Australian Open is his best shot—he made it to the tournament's finals in 2008 and the semifinals in 2010.

1. Andy Murray vs. Ryan Harrison

First off, if you want drama, watch the reality TV show that is Andy Murray vs. Ryan Harrison on Tuesday. Both of these players wear their emotions on their sleeves and can be highly entertaining because of it.

But, beyond that, Murray has been in the Top Four for years now, always struggling against the giants of the sport, including Federer, Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. He's running out of time to make that next huge step.

As for Harrison, the 19-year-old is being tabbed by many as the next big thing in American tennis. He's obviously very raw now, ranked No. 77 in the world, but he apparently worked hard this offseason and it doesn't hurt that Andy Roddick has been his mentor.

Said Roddick of Harrison's first-round matchup versus Murray, via ESPN:

"

"It's going to be tough for Ryan. I saw the kid work every day; he busted his ass in the offseason. He wants to be a player. I wish he wasn't playing Murray in the first round."

"

Murray should win this match, but we'll get a glimpse of a potential future American star. Plus, we get to see two emotional players go crazy out on the court and Murray once again try to prove his doubters wrong moving forward.

Schedule
