WWE News: Latest on Vince McMahon Pulling CM Punk from UFC Show on Fox
News broke a couple of weeks ago that WWE Champion CM Punk would accompany UFC fighter Chael Sonnen to the octagon for his fight at a televised UFC show on Jan. 28.
This isn’t something out of the ordinary, either.
Back in 2009, Triple H accompanied Floyd Mayweather to the ring for his match against Juan Manuel Marquez, and Batista did the same for Manny Pacquiao before his fight against Ricky Hatton that very same year.

But Vince McMahon has pulled Punk from his appearance at Sonnen’s UFC fight, and we have the latest on why he did it.
"As noted earlier, Vince McMahon reportedly pulled WWE Champion CM Punk from escorting Chael Sonnen to the Octagon at UFC’s January 28th show on FOX from Chicago. Apparently Punk was also told that he shouldn’t even be in attendance at the show. Punk was told at Monday’s RAW and one source close to the situation described it as Vince just being in one of his moods. Sonnen reportedly got it cleared with UFC and Punk had it cleared with WWE but when it became a news story, WWE changed their mind.
"
Insert joke about Triple H’s backstage pull in the WWE (and Punk’s lack of it) here.
Seriously, I don’t care if Vince was in “one of his moods” or not. This just seems like another case of favoritism and total B.S. on the part of McMahon.
Punk is the WWE Champion and someone who Vince should be pushing as one of the faces of the company, but he can’t even let him appear at (or even attend) a UFC fight? Weak.
If anything, Punk’s attendance at such a high-profile bout is a great way for Vince and the WWE get to some free exposure. It’s not like Punk is going to make UFC—which, despite what McMahon says, is definitely competition to the WWE—more money, but he can definitely get noticed on the show.
“Oh, look. There’s professional wrestler and WWE Champion CM Punk making his way to the ring with Sonnen.”
Heck, the announcers might not even mention Punk at all, but even anything along those lines is something that McMahon loves: Free publicity.
Thus, I find it rather odd that he put a halt to Punk accompanying Sonnen to the ring and even appearing at the show because he’s let guys like Triple H and Batista do it in the past.
Must be nice to be apart of Vince’s family, huh?
