UFC 142 Results: Gabriel Gonzaga Will Continue to Dominate the Octagon
In his first fight in 15 months, Gabriel Gonzaga returned to the octagon in his hometown of Rio De Janeiro to dominate Ednaldo Oliveira at UFC 142.
Gonzaga hasn't been in the ring since he lost to Brendan Schaub at UFC 121 back in October 2010. Despite missing so much time, he looks to be in completely different form and is ready to dominate, as he took down Oliveira in just 3:22 with a rear-naked choke submission.
This match just looked completely lopsided, as Gonzaga dominated it from the very beginning. Oliveira tried to make some moves to make the match last longer, but it looks as if he was just overmatched.
Gonzaga has been training with Junior Dos Santos, and it looks like it is paying off.
It will remain to be seen if this was just a spark of motivation considering that he was fighting in front of his hometown, or if perhaps he has made a turnaround in his fighting since he left the octagon 15 months ago.
If he continues to fight like he did, it will be hard for many to take him down. He looks rejuvenated and ready to take the UFC by storm. The question if he will be able to keep this going.
After starting out 4-0 with the UFC, he got his shot at the belt with Randy Couture. He lost that fight, and has been inconsistent ever since then.
Including this fight, his record has been 4-4, with the previous two being losses.
It has been a long time since Gonzaga has been in the form that he was back in 2007, when he was challenging for belts, but he may be able to find a fresh start this time around.
Either way, this dominating win in front of his hometown is likely all he could have really asked for at this point in his career.
