NFL Playoff Picks: Predicting Results for Sunday's Divisional Round Games

Wes StueveJun 7, 2018

The divisional round of the playoffs is one of the best weekends in football. Eight of the best teams in the NFL are fighting for their lives and an appearance in each conference championship.

On Sunday, we will see the Houston Texans take on the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Giants try to knock off the Green Bay Packers.

The Texans are playing with T.J. Yates at quarterback. That alone makes the team a significant underdog against the Ravens.

Against most teams, however, Houston is able to rely on its dominant rushing attack. This will not be the case against Baltimore, who had the NFL's second-best run defense in 2011.

When Baltimore is on offense, the game will favor Houston a bit more. The Texans defense has been fantastic under defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, and the team's pass rush is capable of beating an excellent Ravens offensive line.

However, Baltimore has some talent on offense. Ray Rice is an elite running back, and Joe Flacco is more than capable of putting up points.

This will be a defensive battle. Both teams have fantastic defenses, but the Ravens offense will win them the game.

Prediction: Baltimore wins, 23-10.

New York Giants vs. Green Bay Packers

With the Giants, you never know what team you are going to see. New York is capable of beating the best teams in football, but they often fail to show up at all. On the other hand, Green Bay seems to dominate every week.

Eli Manning has been one of the game's best quarterbacks in 2011. Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks have helped, and the Giants will score against the Packers' shaky defense.

The issue is on the other side of the ball. New York has a fantastic pass rush, but their defense has not been great. Aaron Rodgers will tear up the Giants' injury-riddled secondary. The Packers may even be able to run the ball.

If any team can beat Green Bay, it may be the Giants. However, it's almost impossible to pick such an inconsistent team over the Packers, who never struggle.

Prediction: Green Bay wins, 42-35.
