UFC 142 Results: Mendes Will Wrestle Away Aldo's Title

Jose Aldo will frustratingly lose his title to Chad Mendes at UFC 142 on Saturday night. Aldo's powerful striking is going to be neutralized by Mendes' highly-skilled wrestling style. 

This is going to lead to a match of unfulfilled striking for the champ that ultimately ends with a loss in his native Brazil. 

Wrestling

In his most recent match, Aldo took on Kenny Florian. This was a close match throughout that Aldo ultimately won due to his striking. However, that striking was dramatically slowed by Florian's wrestling. While Aldo did a good job of not being taken to his back, Florian is half the wrestler that Mendes is. 

Mendes is a college wrestler. In 2008, he was the Pac-10's wrestler of the year. In compiling his unblemished 11-0 record, Mendes has displayed some of the most explosive takedowns in the UFC. 

Aldo is not equipped to handle his dynamic takedowns. This will wear Aldo down, and eventually lead to Mendes' victory. 

Conditioning 

While Mendes' wrestling skills will lay the foundation for victory, it is his superior conditioning that is going to seal the deal.

Mendes is one of the finest conditioned athletes in the sport. In his 11 victories, he has never showed signs of wearing down. His stamina is outstanding.

The same cannot be said for Aldo. In his second to last fight, Aldo flat ran out of gas. That was a match against Mark Hominick.

Aldo dominated the early parts of that match, but was unable to end it. This resulted in Aldo hitting the wall and getting pounded for the last five minutes. Aldo would have lost that fight if he wasn't saved by the expiring time.  

The champ will not be able to gain an early advantage on Mendes. This will lead to him wearing down, and Mendes finding more holes in Aldo's defense.
