January Transfer Window: 5 Manchester United Rumours from This Week
Last week, Man United made their first "move" in the January transfer market, bringing veteran Paul Scholes back into the fray to provide cover for Sir Alex Ferguson's injury-crippled midfield.
But will this be the only move SAF makes in the transfer window? Here are this week's top five rumours surrounding Old Trafford.
Ki Sung-Yueng
1 of 5Footybunker.com has reported that United could be interested in signing Ki Sung-Yueng from Celtic in order to cover for the midfield crisis.
The 22-year-old, who is valued at £7 million, has already accumulated 44 caps for South Korea and has been touted as a possible star of the future.
Vasilis Torosidis
2 of 5The Daily Mail has suggested that SAF could swoop for Olympiakos' Greek right-back Vasilis Torosidis to add more depth to his squad. The article suggests that United have kept an eye on the player for the last 18 months and could look to make use of Olympiakos' poor financial situation to get the player for a low price.
The defender has a buyout clause of around £6 million, but he could be available for cheaper than that should Olympiakos be looking to cash in.
Neven Subotic
3 of 5Stanjames.com reported that Neven Subotic could be part of a £49 million double-swoop that SAF may be planning.
With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both in their thirties, Sir Alex may be looking to bring in potential replacements if their form starts to dip. Ferdinand in particular has not had a great season, and a player like Subotic could really offer him competition for his place.
The tough-tackling Serbian could be the ideal replacement for current United captain and International defensive partner Vidic.
Mario Gotze
4 of 5Mario Gotze is the other half of that £49 million double swoop.
The "Wunderkid" has attracted the attention of many of Europe's top clubs, and his current club Dortmund will no doubt hold all of them to ransom to get a big fee for the player.
Despite these rumours, The Daily Mail has reported that Dortmund's Sporting Director Michael Zorc wants the player at the club for another season before he is sold off, meaning that the first realistic date for this transfer would be the summer of 2013.
Demba Ba
5 of 5Demba Ba's agent has claimed that United are interested in signing this season's breakout star.
These rumours come off of the back of a week which saw Harry Redknapp claim that Ba's release clause was less than £7 million, which has allegedly put many of the EPL's top clubs on red alert.
Ba has been a revelation for the Toon this season since his free transfer in the summer, scoring 15 times in 17 appearances, including one against Red Devils.
