Stefon Diggs: Do Florida Gators or LSU Tigers Lead in Hunt for the 5-Star ATH?

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

It's all about recruiting now that the college football season and the BCS National Championship are over. Now teams are preparing to better their future.

One of the top prospects still out there is wide receiver Stefon Diggs. While he may lack size at 6'0", 185 pounds, he has great speed and is a threat to take it the distance every time he touches the football. He's also a big threat on special teams, as well.

He has offers from nearly every school in the country, and he hasn't really given any hints to where he will end up. Although, we can guess where he may be headed, based on several different factors that come into play.

He has visits scheduled with Auburn and will likely visit Florida and LSU (via Washington Post).

Here is where he stands with those two schools.

LSU

Diggs was originally recruited by the Tigers for track, and they may be interested in him playing football as well.

The Tigers will have a lot to offer Diggs: He will have a chance to win a national championship and will be competing against some of the top teams in the country every week. They also now have great quarterbacks in Zach Mettenberger and Gunner Kiel.

But when talking about LSU, he says via Scout.com, "That's over and done with."

I don't think those are good words to hear if you're a Tigers fan.

Florida

Florida was actually the front-runner to land the speedy wide receiver, but after losing offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, it turned him off. Now, since they've hired new offensive coordinator Brent Pease, the Gators are back in the race (via Jacksonville.com).

Diggs was always interested in Florida, and is very impressed with the atmosphere that Ben Hill Griffin Stadium provides (via Gainesville.com).

The Gators must still be a team of interest—considering Diggs' mom has already made the visit without him (via GatorCounty.com).

I guess we know which school she wants her son to attend.

Where Will He End Up?

It's really up in the air right now.

Diggs loves playing with the media, enjoys all of the attention and is just having fun with the whole recruiting process. He hasn't really given any indication of where he will end up at this point.

We do know that LSU is likely off the list, and he just took his official visit to Auburn. He will visit Florida soon—because that's been one of the favorites all along. With Pease running the show, they're back in the race.

Other schools that should be considered as well are: California, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and Virginia.

Of course things could change any minute, but it appears it will come down to Auburn or Florida.
