Australian Open 2012 Scores: Jan. 16 Scores and Results Summary
The second day of the 2012 Australian Open started with a bang with some of the sport's top names among the winning crowd. Caroline Wozniacki, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer all advanced, as did John Isner and Jelena Jankovic.
Scores will continue to roll in from Melbourne Park, as a total of 72 matches will be played today, and play is only going to continue to get better.
Here is a closer look at some of the scores from Jan. 16.
Men's Singles
Rafael Nadal (2) def. Alex Kuznetsov: 6-4, 6-1, 6-1
After a decent opening set, Nadal settled in and made quick work of the unseeded American. The only thing Nadal is in danger of is himself until at least the quarterfinals.
Roger Federer (3) def. Alexander Kudryavtsev: 7-5, 6-2, 6-2
Similar to Rafa, Federer's opening set was the closest before settling in and dispatching the 26-year-old Russian.
John Isner (16) def. Benjamin Mitchell: 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1)
The towering 26-year-old American struggled with the young Australian through three tough sets. Ultimately Isner was able to advance in straight sets, but the 19-year-old gave him a good run.
Women's Singles
Caroline Wozniacki (1) def. Anastasia Rodionova: 6-2, 6-1
The world's No. 1 did it in straight sets and made it look easy.
Jelena Jankovic (13) def. Laura Robson: 6-2, 6-0
Jankovic, a former world No. 1, dominated Robson from the get-go. She'll be one to watch in a women's bracket that is still wide open.
Things continue to go as expected Down Under, and the 2012 Australian Open has not spun a major curveball at us.
Look for that to change in the coming days.
