Giants vs. Packers: Why Aaron Rodgers Will Dominate on Sunday

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

The Green Bay Packers have been the NFL's best team all season, and their 15-1 record is only part of the story. They have won 21 of their last 22 games and have looked positively dominant all year long. A big part of that success has come because of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

This season, A-Rodg completed 343-of-502 passes (68.3 percent) for 4,653 yards, with 45 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He led the league in yards per attempt (9.25), and his quarterback rating of 122.5 set the single-season NFL record. And he did all that while sitting out Green Bay's final game of the season.

Rodgers has been phenomenal all year, and this weekend, when the Packers welcome the New York Giants to town, I don't expect that to change at all.

A huge part of Rodgers' success has been the development and health of all his weapons. With Greg Jennings returning from a knee injury this week, that will give the 28-year-old quarterback seven players at his disposal who have caught 25 or more passes this season. Clearly, the Cal product is comfortable spreading the ball around.

The New York Giants finished the regular season ranked 29th in pass defense, allowing an atrocious 255.1 yards per game. The G-Men were great at rushing the passer, however, racking up 48 sacks. But Rodgers is known for his incredibly quick release and his split-second decision-making. That could neutralize New York's pass rush.

When the two teams faced off in Week 13 at MetLife Stadium, the Packers escaped with a 38-35 win. In that game, Rodgers threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns and was only sacked twice. This Sunday at Lambeau Field, I expect even bigger things.

The Giants have had a great run this season, but Rodgers and the Packers will prove to be too much for them this weekend.
