Tim Tebow: Denver Broncos' Amazing Playoff Run Will Continue vs. Patriots

Adam WellsJun 3, 2018

Tim Tebow is the most polarizing quarterback in the NFL. But love him or hate him, he does exactly what he has to in order for the Denver Broncos to win games, and he will continue to live up to that reputation against the New England Patriots in the AFC divisional playoff game this Saturday night.

Before Patriots fans lose their minds, just be aware that the Pittsburgh Steelers were supposed to ride their defense to victory against Tebow and the Broncos last week.

And the Patriots don't have a defense that is anywhere near as good as the Steelers'. They haven't been able to stop anyone from throwing on them, allowing nearly 294 yards per game, and their run defense isn't a lot better, with over 117 yards given up every time they step on the field.

Tebow doesn't have to be a dynamic passer in this game, because he has a great weapon in Demaryius Thomas on the outside who can make plays, and when he doesn't feel comfortable throwing the ball, he can tuck and run.

The first time these two teams played, it wasn't Tebow's fault that they lost. In fact, he led them on two early-scoring drives and finished the game with 287 yards of total offense and two touchdowns.

The Broncos were able to move the ball in that game, and there is no reason to think that they won't be able to do it again.

Even Bill Belichick, in all his stoic glory, said that the Broncos offense is hard to game plan for because it is so unique relative to what everyone else in the NFL does.

"

“Of course, always, experience is a good thing, having played a team. But they played us so I think that evens out. We can do a better job of coaching it,” Belichick said. “They are a difficult team to prepare for, because they do a lot of different things, and there aren’t really any other teams like them in the league, so there’s no other team in the league you can draw experience from. What they do offensively is unique, and so you try to simulate it in practice, but it is a little bit different.”

"

Defensively, the Broncos made a lot of mistakes in that first game. They weren't creating pressure up front, which gave Tom Brady time to just sit in the pocket and do what he does to the tune of 320 yards and two touchdowns.

I don't know if they will have more success on defense in this game or not, but I know that their offense has already proven that it is capable of moving up and down the field against the Patriots.

They have to control the clock, and not try to match the Patriots score for score, but considering how well they run the ball, Tebow's ability to make plays when everything breaks down and Thomas' big-play ability, there is no reason to think the Broncos are doomed.

In fact, they have a great shot to win the game because of the way that they play on offense. It's strange to say, but the Denver Broncos, led by Tebow, will be playing in the AFC Championship Game.
