Chicago Bulls Win Ugly, but They Win over Washington Wizards, 78-64
It was the ugliest thing since the hot tub scene in About Schmidt, but it was a win.
The Bulls completed their sweep in their back-to-back-to-back stretch, joining the Oklahoma City Thunder as the first two teams to reach the 10-win mark.
If I'd told you before the game the Bulls starting point guard outperformed John Wall, the Wizards counterpart, you wouldn't have been surprised. If I'd told you that point guard was John Lucas III and not Derrick Rose, unless you're a Bulls fan, you might ask, "Who's John Lucas III?"
In large part, that explains the ugly performance from the Bulls. While Lucas had some impressive overall numbers, scoring 25 points with eight assists and eight rebounds, they came on the strength of playing just about the entire 48 minutes and shooting 28 shots as well.
The Wizards had no excuse though. It doesn't take an analyst to figure out why Washington is horrible. The only time these guys make a pass is at the cuties in the audience. It was awful. At some points in time, I thought they were going to actually try and steal the ball from each other.
The Bulls once again had Omer Asik and Taj Gibson on the court at the end of the game while Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah sat on the bench. While Boozer has had something of an up-and-down game, Noah has been having a rough start to the season.
It's gotten to the point where Asik is playing better than Noah. In fact, Asik is playing better than a lot of centers in the NBA. Tonight he was huge, getting eight points, five blocks and 14 rebounds.
Kyle Korver also continued his improved play, netting 14 points, four assists and six boards.
The star of the game, though, probably has to go to Luol Deng, scoring 12 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and adding 3 blocks, two steals and two assists. Deng played 45 minutes of his usual spectacular defense as well.
As far as the Wizards go, this was the worst game I've ever seen played by an NBA team that actually had talent on it. It was beyond horrible. Every player was shooting the ball almost before they had gotten it.
If you need proof, look no further than the 28-64 shooting "performance" they had tonight. Of the 28 field goals they made, only 12 were assisted. In John Wall's defense, eight of those assists were his. That means the rest of the team combined for four assists. That's just inexcusable!
Really, it's time to fire Flip Saunders. This team is messed up! They don't even have the semblance of an offense any more. Players are just running randomly around, clogging lanes rather than trying to open them up, and then, whoever gets the ball, chucks some senseless shot.
It takes a special kind of incompetence to make a team with that much talent that bad. Vinnie Del Negro would be an upgrade!
The Bulls' next action will be against the Celtics on Friday, who dropped a game to the Mavericks in the closing minute tonight.
There's no word yet on whether Derrick Rose, Rip Hamilton or CJ Watson will be available for that game. It would be nice if any, if not all three were able to play though.
I'm sure JL3 could use the rest.
