National Signing Day 2012: Which Top Recruiting Classes Are Most Fragile?

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

Recruiting is an extremely fluid process and therefore we see a lot of classes get built, only to see them crumble and fall. It's an occurrence that happens frequently and this year has been no different.

For this read, I'm going to give you a couple recruiting classes that I think are a bit on the fragile side. Whether they've been raided with de-commitments already or have a couple key recruits wavering, there's not a wealth of stability in these classes.

Penn State

Well, of course, right?

Penn State's whole program is fragile right now, let alone their recruiting class. They have 14 commitments and the whole cycle could finish with a good push before NSD, or just falter by the wayside.

They've already lost three players due to the coaching change/scandal, including 5-star DT Tommy Schutt to Big Ten rival Ohio State.

Oklahoma State

Who's next to flee the coop from Stillwater? At one point the Pokes had Kendall Sanders, Dalton Santos, Bralon Addison and even were being considered by LaDarrell McNeil.

Now they have the sixth-best class in the Big 12 alone and not really prospects that are big-name, high-profile recruits. This is a fragile class that could continue to crumble all the way to NSD.

Texas A&M

This class has some top-heavy talent that seems to be looking around. Sure, Matt Davis likely is staying and probably will even enroll early for Kevin Sumlin.

But Trey Williams, Corey Thompson and Bralon Addison are looking around at other schools. It's a solid chance all three will indeed stick with the Aggies, but right now they're again looking around a bit and that's never good.

This class is fine for the most part, but when your two headliners and two of the best overall prospects in the entire country are both looking around, that's the makings of a fragile class.

Both 5-star DE Mario Edwards and 5-star QB Jameis Winston are looking around a bit, as their pledges to FSU aren't as solid as they once were.

Even RB Mario Pender had thought about checking some other schools out for a short while too. Jimbo Fisher won't be able to relax until February 2nd, in actuality.
